Bt internet email address

Options
I have got a btinternet.com email address, is this a web address? I am sure I have accessed my email from another computer bu using btyahoo.com. It's just I am thinking of switching to sky and am not sure whether I need another email address. I do not intend to use outlook or sky email. Thanks

Hi ,

We just switched from BT to TalkTalk and still use our old email (xyz@btinternet.com) by going to the BT/yahoo homepage via Google... So I would say you could do the same - no need to change your email address!

hOPE IT WORKS OUT!

Sky e-mail is simply a rebranded version of Google's Gmail.
I'm on Sky BB and don't use their version but stick to gmail.
If you can send and receive you mail from any computer at the moment then you are using webmail, But they could always stop you sending messages when you cancel your contract.

They normally stop you using their emails if you don;t use their service (internet provider) not sure about BT though but the ones I've worked for do. I'd recommend no one uses the providers email they give you and instead use a free one like hotmail, yahoo or gmail. Or for £4 a year get a personalised one via a domain.

I have had a bt email address for years. It's in the form part1.part2@btinternet.com

It is webmail and can be accessed from any computer. Initially it seemed to be directly administered by BT but then it was moved to Yahoo: I think they hoped people would upgrade to adressess that have to paid for.

I keep the BT address as a backup in case I have any difficulty accessing my normal addresses. I only access my BT one if I am expecting something or every two or three months just to keep the account active.
I access it directly from http://www.yahoo.com/

When you move away from BT, your BT email address will remain valid for a short period of time (90 days according to their terms & conditions, but for me it was around 9 months). After that, it will be disabled.

There are two ways to avoid this:
1) Dial in to the BT PAYG service (via a modem, not using broadband to access webmail) at least once every 90 days
2) Pay £1.50 per month to BT to keep your email address

Thanks, I can acces it from any computer, therefore it a webmail and should have to worry about it being cancelled. You have answered my query.
• I picked up this forum because I was considering trying to get myself a BT email address, in the hope of good spam filtering facilities. Firefox Thunderbird is good in some ways, but I've had to regress to clearing my own spam again . Just got a new laptop, hence the problem.

I noticed reference in the posts to 'gmail' which I took to mean google's email addresses. I got myself a google email address, but I heard that Google 'read' all your messages and send you information that you might find interesting, which is just spam by another name, so I don't really use it now.

What does anyone else think or know?

To me spam arrives in my inbox, and google's spam filters are very good.
Yes they do pick up on key words and deliver small text based ads on your mail page, hardly notice them myself, and worry about them even less.

It always amuses me to find recipes for spam fritters and the like in the spam folder.

• We have had BT email addys for several years, we have just received the following email from them. (we have not accessed the Dial up facility for about 8 years now) I suspect they must be doing a bit of housekeeping. We do not have a BT landline as we now live in France.

Please has anyone any suggestions how we can keep our valuable btinternet.com addresses for free.
Thanks
xx

Dear

We have noticed that you're registered as a BT Yahoo! Pay-as-you-go dial-up customer, but you haven't accessed your account using the BT Yahoo! Pay-as-you-go1 dialler for at least 30 days.

You need to connect to the internet using this dial-up number at least every 90 days as stated on your Terms & Conditions.

If you still wish to use your BT Yahoo! Pay-as-you-go account, all you need to do is dial up using the BT Yahoo! Pay-as-you-go icon on your desktop, within the next 60 days. If you no longer have this icon, you can easily download it here. However if you do not dial in within 60 days your account will be ceased.

If you are using a BT Broadband or BT Total Broadband account
You haven't yet registered your original BT Yahoo! Pay-as-you-go email address as a broadband email address.

To keep your email address, click here and enter your details. You will be asked "Do you already have a BT email address?". Please tick "Yes".

If you have changed your broadband provider or want to continue using this email address
If you've changed your Broadband provider but want to keep your BT Openworld or BT Internet email address, consider our Premium Mail package. For just £1.47 a month2, you can get:
• Unlimited storage
• Protection against viruses, spam and other online threats
• Easy to use BT Yahoo! webmail

Don't think you can do it for free :(. Options are as per post #6.

making the call from France once every 3 months is probably cheapest. Numbers here http://btydialup.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/btydialup.cfg/php/enduser/cci/bty_adp.php?p_faqid=1274
