Where in Barcelona should I be staying?

I'm trying to book a hotel for 3 nights 1st-4th Feb and decide where in Barcelona to be.
I know I need to be near the shops, museums, history sort of stuff...but also somewhere where we can get away for the day, perhaps to a port or seaside sort of place.

Does anyone have any ideas of what sort of areas we should be looking at?

Barcelona is on the coast and has quite a nice beach, so you won't need to go anywhere else for this. If you're only going to be there for 3 nights, going away for the day won't leave you much time for Barcelona itself!

take the train down the coast from Barcelona. It's a lovely ride along the coast and you can go to Calella, Blanes etc.

Take the bus tour in Barcelona. There are 3 coloured routes and you can buy a 2 day ticket and get off and on as many of the routes as you like. one goes into the hills which is lovely.

Cool, thanks for the advice guys. Do you have any ideas of where in Barcelona I should book the hotel? Everything is so confusing, I know were flying to Reus if that helps.

I would avoid staying on Las Ramblas, it's the tourist centre and everything is really expensive.

lol Thats where everything seems to be that I'm seeing. But the hotels aren't that expensive, about £250 for the three nights, and thats four nights!

Try alpharooms and then go through quidco for some cashback. This link should work, 1-4 Feb Barcelona, cheapest upwards.

We stayed at one end of Las Ramblas, which was good location wise but everywhere is really expensive, food and drink wise.

If you find a few you like, check out the reviews on tripadvisor.com.

I agree with Burlesque get onto the hills in Barcelona, absolutely stunning view from up there! I had a hire car for a few days, got lost and ended up there. So glad I did get lost!

Try and see the fountains in the evening, they are awesome as well especially when there's a show on. Las Ramblas is also great, stick to that street in the evenings, the back streets leading from Las Ramblas can be a bit dodgy!

Apart from that I'd go back now, such an amazing city!

I'd look for somewhere within walking distance of Placa de Catalunya.
  • Try Hotel Oasis. Its close to the sea and a short walk to Golthic Quarter. It is quite cheap, only cost us 50 euros per room per night in December booked through Alpharooms. Reviews on Tripadvisor are about right except that people have said that the renovation work is quite disturbing so I was expecting the worst but I can honestly say I never noticed it at all. Staff are nice and they know everything. There is a bus stop outside to just about everywhere you want to go and of course the sea is just across the road. Hope this helps...

Cool, I'll certainly look it up and check out the reviews.

Does anyone know if there are places with sessions going on...just my partner loves playing in random places and anywhere she can get up and play guitar she'd be happy with!
