I wouldn't make light of my grumbles with British Gas Homecare not after they broke my fathers boiler on Xmas Eve and left him without heating with a serious heart condition and tried to charge him for their own incompetence.
Anyone tried to find out if these cowboys are corgi registered!!Its impossible
British Gas are a disgrace.Wind me up again Gasbag and I'll spend the next year thrashing your Company on this and other forums and warning other people to stay well away so they don't suffer the same problems we have had to put up with
Glad to know i got to you then matt. O and i am trembling in my boots you keyboard warrior!!!!0 -
I get my boiler "annual maintenance and safety inspection" done in the summer. That way they are not busy and there is little chance of it being cancelled because of urgent breakdowns.0

dear matt my husband is a gas engineer and when he gets called out at 4 in the morning to a couple who apparently have a baby (none in sight) who could have been tucked up in bed until the morning think of those times you need gas engineers a callout charge for a plumber/engineer would set you back a fair penny also i asume you'd rather have your dad alive and cold than dead from what ever was wrong with his boiler my husband as just had to cut a family off today of all days with two very young kids he's gone to b&q to get heaters for them and i'm sure bg would have offered to do something similar for your dad as this is standard through the company also to all those moaning about having your service and having to wait for it why book it in the winter when it's the busiest time why not in late summer before cold winter sets in do you know many people never use their boiler from march till september then expect to turn it on and presto it works !!then expect to phone bg and get it fixed in an hour the engineers are only human and sadly also have a life.0

Well said X0 -
Corgi's advice is still to get boilers checked yearly for safety - http://www.trustcorgi.com/carbonmonoxidekills/getyourappliancessafetycheckedeveryyear.htmx IIRC, there's still a legal obligation on landlords to get an annual check. Is BG arguing that this is over-cautious?0

"Annual check" that is what you get from BG... The boiler manufactures servicing proceedures are totally different to our "yearly safety and maintanance inspection". Most manufactures say you must clean certain parts(condensate trap/burners/flueways) and replace various seals and parts but BG dont follow the makers insructions they have their own proceedures!0 -
Just had a lovely experience with BG regarding my contract NOT!!
I to did not realise I had to book my service- my fault I suppose as I didnt notice it in the T&C- Though it wasnt sold to me that way!!
Booked the service 6 week wait- not happy but busy time of year so hey ho.
Both myself and other half are self employed.
I got offered 3 days work so o/h had to take a day off.
we also had to make arrangements as our child had to attend speech therapy.
Obviously none of this is BG's fault.
this afternoon wife phones up in tears, after 1pm she phoned up to see where the engineer was.
" oh we had to cancel the appointment as we have too many call outs!!"
"sorry we forgot to let you know"
we can give you another appointment in one months time!!
So my o/h missed an important medical meeting and lost £100 in wages.
I am absolutely furious0 -
On a BG contract. We had a morning appointment for a BG engineer to come and repair our boiler a couple of winters ago. Having waited all morning, at midday, we rang BG for an indication of approximately how long the engineer was likely to be. Lengthy pause whilst she checked.
'Oh he says he's already called at your property and got no reply, he won't be able to get back to you today now.'
We had been in all morning so I repeated the address and postcode and asked her to check again with the engineer.
'Yes, he's definitely been, knocked at the door and got no answer.'
Strange that because no card had been put through the letterbox but also because 6" of pristine snow had fallen overnight and there was not a single footprint anywhere on our drive.:rotfl:
To cut a long story short, BG's explanation was that because of the snow, it wasn't safe for the van to get up the hilly road that leads to the estate. Which of course is understandable and could easily have been explained to us in a short phone call.0 -
Just thought I would update my original comment seeing as it's now been over a year since I last posted and guess what. Yes my contact has over ran again. I started the contact in October 2006. 2nd Service November 2008. 3rd Service January 2009 and 4th service, well I am still waiting for a conveient date. At this rate, like my old house I moved from, they would have got a full years payment for doing nothing in another three years.
Anyone else had there contracts rolling on by a month or two each year. If you dont know, I suggest you check because they are ripping you off.0 -

You are easily wound up then I take it ?.
OP there are people without heating or hot water at this time of year all the engineers are focused on doing repairs during this period. A simple call to a freephone number would take you 5 minutes you get a time that suits you hey presto.
I find it much easier to deal with angry customers who don't make a song and dance about the issue (They customers issues get solved quicker.)His Heart Proved He Was A RedSuarez, SuarezWe Bought The Lad From AmsterdamWe Know He's Not a Chelsea Fan.Fernando Torres = El Judas0
