Avira AntiVir Personal

I use:
Anti-Virus - AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic (scanning all the time)
Anti-Spyware - SUPERAntiSpyware (on demain scanning)
Anti-Malware - Malwarebytes (on demain scanning)
Firewall - Windows XP SP3 inbound firewall + Router
I wouldn't bother with a software firewall - read here for a discussion of why:

Downloaded ................................... wait for it ........................................Avast!
Not too keen on the interface to be honest, Avira seemed much simpler to use and update.
Yes the user interface is aimed at the younger generation. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Most sites use 'scripts'. Which means they have programs within the webpages running to run for example flash videos (you tube), map direction (AA site) etc
BUT, some sites have nasty viruses in. So if the computers set to allow ALL scripts and the anti virus doesnt recognise it as a virus, then youll get infected.
It was in some of your posts in other threads that I read about Sandboxie - so I'm going to try that too - although I undersatand the principle (a bit!), I need to follow the guide first. Thanks!
If Avast is aimed at the younger generation - then it's definetely not for me!!0 -
"Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus software remains free. In order to extend the license without reinstalling the product, please download the current license file.
If you save it directly in the directory C:\Program Files\Avira AntiVir Personal\, Updates are available again."
HTHPeel back your baby's eyelid to find no nationality or religious identity mark there. Peer at your baby's eyes for them to reflect back just people-throw away your flags and religious symbols...0 -
Thanks Rik - I'll give it a try.

As a sort of a basic explanation ~
A sanboxie runs the internet within it. So if a trojan was for example to infect your computer it woudlnt actually be able to (Unless you allowed it to)
It all runs in a space on the hard drive, and once youve stopped using the internet (Or whatever), the 'sandbox' is cleared and no harm is done. Its supposed to be the safest way to use the net by far, but I choose not to so I can keep atop of the other ways.:idea:0 -

If you know his background, youll know he had to remove certain words etc from his catalogues until he could PROVE they could be 'measured'. ABX BLIND TEST results (Which he had) were deemed to not be good enough for them. So he removed the 'offending items' until such time he could prove what he claimed was true
He has since proven his claims and reinstated them into his catalogues. If these are deemed to be untrue, his reputation will be in tatters and his company will more than likely fold (Especially in these troubled times)
Hed have to be a total !!!!!! to risk it with BS:idea:0 -

I spose I went off on a kind of tangent there.
In answer, were now in the age of the internet. If someone was to try a 'mains cable', or 'conditioner' or whatever from him and it made no difference (to them), then theyre fully allowed to say as such. That DOESNT mean it didnt do what Russ claims it does, just that it didnt work in THAT situation (Or the person involved has poor hearing/eyesight)
As and when I hear that he IS claiming BS, ill jump on him and do my best to tell everyone I can about it!:idea:0 -

Yes it was
Go phone them up Torres. Tell them that russes claims are BS so they can investigate this:idea:0 -

Going back to the scripts - is it necessary to allow or block each one, and how do you know which ones are potentially harmful?0 -

Well, if you use sandboxie, theres really no need for noscript
But anyways ~
its basically down to common sense. I set mine so that alerts are NOT shown (Takes up room if its on). This means that each new page I go on a look bottom right at the 'S' symbol.
If theres any 'red' in the S, then something is blocked. Depending on what im trying to do, i may need to allow it (to watch a video on youtube for example, or paying for an item on amazon). If you dont NEED to unblock a script, then kleep it blocked.
As long as you 'safe surf', you should be fine. SOME sites will auto redirect you to a nasty webpage (Which may infect your machine). NOSCRIPT auto stops the redirect, and auto stops a nasty webpage from infecting you (And theyre usually of the '!!!!!!' variety):idea:0
