Yes it does scan your messenger downloads. It scans anything you download so if you download a attachment it gets scaned.0

To answer Thomas and Loaner - it is the free version. It says the Personal Edition Classic Licence has expired and when I try to update I get the message "No valid licence file available".
Going to give one of the other free software a try - probably AVG, and then in a couple of months try Avast, and see which one I prefer.
Having read previous threads, finding a unanimous verdict on the best version is impossible, as they all have their own supporters.
On a slightly different tack, I've seen a lot of mention of "Scripts" in relation to PC security - could someone explain what they are?
I use Firefox and understand that a "No-script" add-on is available.0 -

Click on the clock in the bottom right hand corner and make sure the date and time are set correctly. Have fun with AVG if your swapping to it.0
