Following advice seen on here I downloaded the free Avira anti-virus software a few months ago.
The licence has now expired, which means I can't update it any more.
Is there any free anti-virus software that can continue to be used and updated after the initial trial period?

Better still download AVAST HOME EDITION Anti-Virus its free and once registered lasts a year before you require to re-register.
Download using the download.now (download.com website) link as sometimes downloads from avast server can be slow.

Thanks guys - I had thought of uninstalling and then reinstalling (onto my brand new superfast 160GB hard drive
) but don't really want the hassle of having to do that every couple of months.
Having read plenty of other threads on the subject, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the two products, and both seem to have their admirers, so although I've been pleased with Avira, I may give AVG or Avast a try next.0 -

Don't go with AVG it's awful if your going to swap go with Avast.0 -
Thanks espresso - I like the idea of AVG auto-updating. Do you know how often it does that?0

Avira is free -maybe you downloaded premium version or its just a nag screen you have seen which can simply be closed.0

Thanks Thomas - I didn't realise you could just download again. I'd assumed - as Loaner had said - that you had to uninstall and then reinstall. Is it just the Licence File that I need to download?0

I guess so I have never had it expire
have you got the latest version of it installed?
