Yes I can understand those feelings.
.I sometimes feel like doing that Likely Lads thing of gis us a job, !

    Boys from the blackstuff, 1982
    Yosser Hughes, 'gizajob'

Just been re-watching it on dvd
thought it hilarious (and slightly black) at the time
Now doesn.t seem so funny, more like tragic with occasional wry smile...
    Yosser a sadly damaged character
'Here I stand, a man with no job ...
You can't sack a man with no job...
I can lay bricks. Anyone can lay bricks
    gizajob....'

Sigh. Seems sadly topical again now.

The very best with your jobhunting.
the thing about the degree is ridiculous, I sympathise.
(I never did a degree but now doing PhD... how's that!)
But if you can get your head round it now, and get it paid for, why not do OU degree - not for job purposes, but for yourself?

That was a good read. Thanks Browntoa, thanks Pastures.

Whilst she's owned it, she'll have had to pay for planning permission costs, and stuff like council tax I'd image.

So another landlord with a load of property and getting an education about greed, bubbles and crashes. If I were the bank and she gets in to trouble with repayments, I'd be straight after getting all her other properties from her, and her own home.

I'm sure it was her outside the property when I rode past , old Y reg escort estate

would make a nice house if I win the lottery !!

I was once a respected member of the community, I went to work, earnt my money and knew what was expected of me....I was happy in my little world of remembering container numbers, sorting out horrendous query files with oodles of charges and the never ending ringing telephone with an irate/confused customer that needed calming/explanation.

Now it is all confusing, jobs that I can do standing on my head (if I could still stand on my head :D ) are now out of reach because I don't have a degree, something which didn't matter when I went out into the work place nearly 23 years ago (blimey that is a scary number)...I sometimes feel like doing that Likely Lads thing of gis us a job, or going down on my knees and begging for a chance, that is all I want, a chance to prove I can do the job without a blooming degree!

How's your 'business idea' fc123 was advising you on going, SingleSue?

    And your job search, PN?

I ask partly because I had a brainwave the other day - well night, actually, as brainwaves usually tend to turn up in the middle of the night, and contemplated asking for help on here?

    Fancy a job? ;)

I'm semi-serious - not sure when I have the time to do this though, as my plan is v big. (And no - it's not buying houses at auction and making a huge profit.......).

Well, job hunting's been slow. I have a "key specialism" that I thought I'd look for a job in first, before moving onto my "other/previous skills". This has been a bit slow as I've been looking within the local area first, before looking further afield

My magical free internet money just keeps rolling in without me doing a thing (not touched the site since October) and, luckily, that's up again this month.

Job? What? Actually work you mean? Rather than idly talking about it? How frighteining :)

    I'm always open to ideas.

Still at the development/putting feelers out stage...so not very far really.

As PN, I am open to ideas.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Not sure whether there is any money to be made at all in my idea, or whether I'd know how to get it up and running, though it's something there is a huge need for - bit scared of revealing my idea in case it turns out to be completely stupid. Oh, for some of FC123's confidence/experience! It's not a business in the conventional sense, I should add. Sorry to be mysterious.

Will PM you in due course - little one off nursery with chickenpox today - he's even got them in his mouth not to mention lots of other uncomfortable bits, so have just been singing endless nursery rhymes/doing stickers and drawing. Must now get on with the thousand other things I ned to do to earn money now/enable household to function at all, in brief period while he's down for a nap....

Aww the poor little thing - out of all the childhood illnesses, chicken pox is one of the worst for them to suffer through.

    No worries....kiddies come first.

Give it a go! There's no shame in trying , even if it fails.

Starting a business from scratch can be a long lonely road but ultimately far more satisfying. Money isn't everything. Property developement has turned from being a business into a selfish pursuit of pure greed nature.

I already run a (very small) business, so know my own strengths/weaknesses only too well.

Lack of time is a definite factor at the moment, unfortunately, but thanks for the encouragement!

BTW you can grow stuff you can eat inside on your window sills or a table as long at the room has enough light.

I grew some fantastic tomatoes on our south-facing windowsill a few years back. I started them from seed, potted them on, and put a big piece of cardboard covered in aluminium foil behind them to reflect the sunlight.

(The ladies in the office over the road thought we were growing dope.)

You just have to make sure you don't end up with water leaking out of the trays though, damage to the windowsill might balance out the savings from grow-your-own.
