  • Had nothing but trouble with Axa medical insurance and had a couple of friends who had problems with Axa travel insurance and Axa household insurance. It seems they are the worst company when you try to claim irrespective of which type of insurance it is. My advice is stay well clear of Axa.

I have just been renewing my travel insurance and getting quotes for car insurance. I made a point of not getting quotes for any company underwritten by Axa after reading from FH Brit that he had over a hundred claims from Axa for insurance in Florida that hadn't been settled.

You are well advised not to touch Axa with a barge pole!!
I am one of the very many customers still wainting for Axa to honour their promises they make on their policies! They have been totally negligent on every aspect of my claim, and are now going to get all thats coming to them! They are not getting away with treating me like some kind of mindless moron!! who cannot stick up0 for themselves, so the s...t is gong to hit Axa`s fan very soon. And i advise anyone else out there that if you had or having problems with Axa, then don`t let them fob you off, or pass the buck, which they are famous for. Hit them where it hurts. these people cannot be allowed to get away with this.

    Hi All

If you don't mind me asking what kind of problems are people having with AXA, I have many policies with them and no problems with claiming.
  • I had and still have a big problem with their medical insurance. All their rules and regs were followed by me and all the necessary authorisations received, but after an operation they queried the hospital and doctors charges and said certain things weren't authorised, which were completely beyond my control. They refused to pay so the hospital billed me over £5000. It's taken the threat of legal action and the threat of involving national newspapers before Axa have agreed to cover most of the charges. However, there is still over £500 in dispute and the hospital have threatened to go to court over it as legally I am responsible. My solicitor says that this is just what we want them to do because then we can summons Axa as a witness and bring everything into the open. We'll have to see what happens but we'll also have to see who pays the costs.

Icmeler, The problems are.... that you have the treatment whilst you are hospitalized in the usa, but when you come home bills start to come thro the post for bills that wern`t paid whilst you are there. And when you pass the bills onto Axa they just ignore them, you chasr them and chase them, but they just do not respond.

  • We are currently having problems with axa car insurance and we have vowed never to use them again, as funnily enough, 4 years ago when we had to cancel a holiday due to illness, we had nothing but grief, and surprise surprise it was AXA!!

How many times have you claimed?
Axa (very rarely) do sort things out - usually smaller claims that are not worth getting the £500.00 fee from the FOS.
And, of course, there are always exceptions to every rule.

Where was your claim? I am Florida based and this is what (in the USA) is called pre-certification (getting IC to authorize medical treatmenet before it is carried out). If by any chance you were in Florida, it is illegal for an insurance company to pre-certify emergency treatment or travel (Ambulance) to the ER. If you were in Florida let me know and I'll provide the Florida Statues that refer.

If not Florida - the look on line for the Office of Insurance at the particular State Government's wesite and see if they have similar laws.

In these cases you need to file a complaint with the FSA's Ombudsman Service (Phone 0845 080 1800) and they will pursue Axa.
