The "said material" would be the paedophila material you hypothetically proposed buying from a USA website

No, I never mentioned the USA. My example was just that, an example.
The sale counts as occuring in the US and the company T+Cs (which I've not read) almost certainly say any dispute will be dealt with under US law. The OP is (somewhat) interesting in their right to complain / recompense, so the relevant law is the US one.

My mention of US law/company T&Cs and your quoting of it has nothing to do with any potential case against your bank (credit card) if it's under the Consumer Credit Act, Distant Selling Regulations etc. If someone (that USA company) does something that's against the law/regulations in this country that's all that matters and can matter. As a resident of the UK we should only bother about our consumer laws and your bank becomes fully liable in most cases. It would be an endless job for the consumer to sort things out in another country. That's why the banks get paid.

If you buy a carpet in India for £1000 and you have a receipt for £1000 and you get home to find out you've actually been billed for £1,000,0000. Who pays? Your bank pays because the £1,000,000 is actually their money (it's credit you only have). Yes, you can provide them with a few details but it's up to them to stop the payment and they will with Mastercard in tow. There was a House of Lords judgment on this very matter.
