Mastercard doesn't know answer to Mastercard question. Does anyone here?

I recently made a purchase online with my M&S Mastercard to a company in America: www.directlines.com it was extremely difficult to find what their shipping costs were and the only information given was:
'Shipping costs are determined based on the items you are buying, cart subtotal and your ship-to location. The shipping is calculated by the District Lines system when you are processing your order.'

Through the payment process it always showed a sub-total, it wasn't until the payment was completed that the full total (including shipping) was revealed, and then only when I looked up my order number. Is this allowed?

I should be given some idea of the amount prior to final payment should I wish cancel or not to go through with the transaction. I have contacted Mastercard to get their opinion, but oddly they had no idea and was advised to contact my card issuer.

That website just has adverts on it! It doesn't look like a real company to me.

    Beware!

    That's not a real website
  • I think the OP meant https://www.districtlines.com

Sorry, don't know whether this is allowed, but is there not another website where you can buy the same thing? That seems to be a marketplace type of set-up, with lots of vendors on the one website.
I'd certainly prefer to know my total bill upfront before I agreed to it!

You knowlingly went right through to the end of the purchase without the shipping charges. That was stupid and now you don't want to take the blame I'm guessing? You have given them the right to charge anything they like essentially. What did they charge?

Anyway, if you think the charge is wrong (or even way beyond what it might cost (doesn't mean you still won't be made to pay as they may claim general 'charges')) then you can challenge it with your bank. You'll just have to see what they say.

If you've received the goods/services that would be the end of the matter usually unless you can prove someone did something against an agreement, your local laws or Mastercard international's rules (which you can challenge under local law of course).

A few people on here have a very holier-than-thou attitude to others, a previous comment on this thread was removed for being offensive and now another friendly character.

Why I should have to defend myself - but anyway:

I didn't knowlingly go through to the end without knowing the shipping costs, the web page inferred that the next would show the final total.

I am not blaming anyone for anything.

    The shipping costs were $17.

The website can be looked up on domaintools.com

My son's friends have previously used this site, but wasn't going to ring them up to find out the cost of shipping.

I was merely wondering if not revealing the costs was allowed.

    Very reasonable?

Are you saying you gave your card details prior to being made aware of the total? If you had a problem, then you shouldn't have put the details in.

Yet another thread with somebody complaining about something that doesn't need complaining about!

I was asking a question - though I seem to be upsetting a lot of sensitive people.

seems no one knows the answer to the OP's question.
    Lots of judgements given out.
Welcome aboard gemsurf2 I only posted as I would hate for you to think were all as opinionated as some who have chosen to post on this thread.

It appears my post has been removed for saying what most the others have said. Think I am going off to sulk now.
