I use power director to edit dv video. I would compress it using into mpeg4 format DivX using the utility that supersaver said. You could open a gmail account and use it for web space. There is a hack you can get for that, then give the username and password to your friends. Make sure its just an account for that purpose by invitating youself under a different account.

Its still going to take time if your on broadband as usually the most you get get is about 30kb/sec uplaod and browsing you be very slow during that time.

I thought Austrialian ISP like Testra, think thats what is called, if your with them are rubbish and charge a lot for bandwith, or at least they did before.

Probably easiest way to to use mail.

What you should try is to open a file at a time with Movie Maker

Open Movie Maker, File Import into Collections (locate file) drag and drop imported file
into the frame below, then file, Save movie file, Choose Save to my computer,
Give it a Name (different to the original) and a save location.

Then Show more choices and click Other settings, and have a look in there
and save in a few different formats and then have a look at the file sizes
and quality.. just have a play with it.

You can use this site (free for a week)

    You Send It

    You upload to them.
The recipient clicks on a link to download.

You're definately going to have to compress them to get them to send via email, but you will struggle at uploading them and ISPs may reject it etc.

Best thing might be, like Intel said, to post it in the mail on a CD.
Burn to a disc and post.

A few things to try use winzip to get the initial file size down, you can also split the large file in to smaller chunks I recomend less the 10mb per file as most email hosts limit sending and receiving to 10 per email.

as sugested compress the file with xvid/divx quality shouldnt be reduced too much then use winzip to split the file but it wont reduce the file size much as divx is a compressed format to start with.

ther are loads of sites where you can upload files to I have used these 2 in the past.
    http://www.rapidshare.de/ 100MB
    http://www.megaupload.com/ 250MB

then just email the links to the pages for them to download them.

It isnt good practice to send huge files by email I know broadband allows it but even 10 mb is a lot in an email. make use of the upload sites.

    Thanks will try winzip :)

megaupload I think probably isnt going to work as it took 3hrs 45minutes to upload and the link I've sent to my Dad says he can download the file - what I really want is that he (and anyone else I want to see it) can go on and watch the video without having to download it.........

I just pop in now and then.... :)
