Mine has never gone watery
I use fresh fish (usually the Mr T fish pie mix - smoked haddock/salmon/cod) & it's always lovely.
Not sure about frozen fish though??0 -
Would also add peas/sweetcorn to the mix before cooking if it was for me & the kids, but hubby doesn't like them so usually have to cook them separately!! :mad:0

when we use to eat cod, we made a fish pie really quickly by defrosting the cod, cutting it into chunks, placing in a casserole dish, pouring over a tin of sweetcorn, tin of peas, tin of condensed mushroom soup and some dill. Then we topped it with mash potatoe and baked it in the oven.0

Made a fish pie last night - (quite scrummy if I say so myself!)
Loads left so any ideas on how to jazz it up so we can finish it off tonight? Standard fish pie - haddock, prawns, boiled eggs, tomatoes, cheese sauce, topped with mash potato/butternut squash and topped with cheese.0 -
Hi I made a huge pot of fish pie mix, which I have split in to various pots and cooked in oven, but I didn't have enough potatoes to go round all pots, still have one left, what I want to know is: the fish would have been heated through for about 10mins on the hob, is it ok to freexe this mix (adding mash and cooking next time round) or should I add the pots cook it and then freeze? (I'm just being lazy really as I've been cooking all am whilst DH been here but now his gone to work and the baby has just woken!)
Thanks TF0 -
If I'm making an extra fish pie to freeze, I usually make the fish base, put the mash on it & then freeze it like that. Then I get it out & cook it when I want to eat it. I don't think there'd be a problem with freezing just the base and adding mash at a later date except that you'll have hot mash going onto a very cold fish base, so it's probably just a case of making sure it's heated through right to the bottom when you come to eat it. I usually find things that have come out of the freezer do need a bit longer.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

Hmmm it is a bit tricky with the mash as foxgloves says.
Could you not freeze the base, then next time you are making mash, make extra for the freezer. Then when you want the fish pie, pop both in fridge to defrost the night before and then that night pop the mash onto the filling?0 -
Thanks for replies, thats what I was unsure about too, Think I will do your suggestion alittlebit. TF xx0

just freeze the base but defrost it before adding the mash when you are ready to cook it.0
