Still, fresh is better than processed. You can still do it on a budget and probably spend less. I think Eric is probably buying grass-fed naturally reared meat, which will cost more.0 -
It does matter if £700 is being spent on a mere 2 people a month... £175 per week.
well for one its my money and i can afford it (at the moment), 30-40 a week will be for none food stuff, oh and theres cat food and litter for 2 cats in there as well, and cat treats, about £5 a week on them alone ..
it does amaze me how well some people do on so little money, hats off to you
or my mate who will happily spend £200 on a meal out lol
my personal food budget is £10 a day, but then at work they charge £4 for a sub and £1.50 for a bottle of coke (i take my own food) so its not that OTT if you bought out all the time0 -

This has forced me to go look at our statements and create an Excel spreadsheet so we know what we are spending in 2011.
Our average for 2 people for Jan-April is £185 on food per month. Comparing this with the above £175 per week for 2 people I feel great!
For us this is mostly Sainsburys food, includes salads and fresh veg with almost every meal, salmon or tuna twice per week, free range eggs, free range chicken and sometimes beef, plus naughty treats here and there and 3 kinds of fresh fruit per week too. As well as all homemade lunches and our cat has nice food too, not the cheapest.
I don't think it matters if he can afford it...Eric_Pisch wrote: »it is a lot but i eat 350g of steak I(28 day taste the difference £8) or 2 chicken breasts (free range no injected gloop) for dinner and about 600g of veg
not eating processed food and especially not eating grain really kicks the price up
prices have gone up a good £100 a month over the last 18 months
but it is still cheaper than what i used to eat and drink, with all the take aways, snacks, pies, beer and wine i used to eat and drink, i could solo £30 worth of pizza :rotfl:
Are you eating paleo by any chance? My food bills have gone down because I'm not buying any processed stuff...feel fab for it though!0 -
Fair enough Eric if you can afford it, and I guess you do eat alot as well - I could never eat 2 chicken breasts in one meal but I'm a gal - even though I am pregnant!
You can understand though that as a money saving site this would seem a high amount per week but everyone prioritises differently... and as I have a focus on baby right now I eat well but I also want to not spend carelessly so we can save and in case anything were to happen to jobs etc. I know for a fact if I didn't watch the food spending I'd get alot more in the weekly food shop just from temptation alone!:):)

Maybe, probably depends on the whole diet though. I've given up potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, beans, and spend more on meat...it's pretty much evened out. But, I do love to cook!0 -

yep, i came up with my own diet to loose weight after doing research what was evolutionary correct for us (and boy does it work, check the sig) I hadn't seen the paleo or blue book diets but they are very similar to what i researched, and they do work, and you are never hungry which is amazing, but its not cheap
grains are such a cheap bulking agent

I am pretty big my calculated goal weight is 230lbs at 6' 1"
I would never criticise anyone for living to a budget, and as i said before i have huge respect for some of the amazing things people can do on tight budgets
I have been shifting our focus on expenditure heavily, I paid off my car last month and by sept all our loans and cards will be cleared, and we now do not get credit for anything0
