I try and do a big monthly shop, but I still end up spending over a £100 per week, at my local shops.0

I spend about £15 a week on food, though i do eat a lot of frozen/ready made food as i really can't be trusted not to cause serious injury/damage in the kitchen.
Last time i attempted sunday lunch from scratch i set the oven on fire...

I have been recording my spend over the last few weeks, especially as I have started shopping at the smaller local shops rather than a supermarket.
Here's a typical list:
9.70 veg
3.50 rabbit
7.15 bream
8.20 sausages and beef
3.40 cheese and salami
2.29 milk and cereal
0.90 eggs
1.00 bread rolls
11.13 bread, rolls, beans, milk, oats, muesli, salami, ice-cream, bananas, cat milk
=£47.27
I usually add on a further £10 during the week for top up bits and pieces.
(My partner has just stopped being vegan spectacularly so occasionally eats all six eggs in four days!!!)
There are two of us (two cats and three dogs but I bulk buy for the animals).Mortgage free plans on hold!

we eat almost no processed food and i eat huge amounts of quality meat and veg which costs fortunes ...
but this is all our meals as we do not buy any other food during the week or go out / have take aways and this also includes all our toiletries and cleaning products etc
and people say eating fresh food over processed is cheaper :rotfl:
im going to save this post for the next time someone tries coming out with that clap trap!0 -

Wow! That is a lot, I probably spend about £100 a week for four of us, I don't buy anything processed and only buy organic, quality meat as well. Where do you shop?0 -
Around the £60 mark for the two of us - I'm not including eating out (maybe once a fortnight) or the weekly take-away."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

Well, does it really matter? Fresh quality food is much healthier than processed food...a no brainer really!0 -

It does matter if £700 is being spent on a mere 2 people a month... £175 per week.
This has forced me to go look at our statements and create an Excel spreadsheet so we know what we are spending in 2011.
Our average for 2 people for Jan-April is £185 on food per month. Comparing this with the above £175 per week for 2 people I feel great!
For us this is mostly Sainsburys food, includes salads and fresh veg with almost every meal, salmon or tuna twice per week, free range eggs, free range chicken and sometimes beef, plus naughty treats here and there and 3 kinds of fresh fruit per week too. As well as all homemade lunches and our cat has nice food too, not the cheapest.:):)

£700 a month, for 2?
I thought I was a lot and i'm about £500 a month for 5.
it is a lot but i eat 350g of steak (28 day taste the difference £8) or 2 chicken breasts (free range no injected gloop) for dinner and about 600g of veg
not eating processed food and especially not eating grain really kicks the price up
prices have gone up a good £100 a month over the last 18 months
but it is still cheaper than what i used to eat and drink, with all the take aways, snacks, pies, beer and wine i used to eat and drink, i could solo £30 worth of pizza :rotfl:0
