Thanks all for your replies - I will have a look at the linked topics
Growing my own would be good, unfortunately with a paved patio being the only garden it's not really going to happen especially with cats in the vicinity!
The lists start when we have moved - and I will try to take it with me!!0 -
We are a family of 3 Me, OH and our son
I have just planned our meals, and basically i go throug my cupboards and tick off what i already have so i dont duplicate.
i just used asda online to calculate how much my shop will be and it came to £28.57!!!!
i normally spend £40-£50 a week, I also have wrote the stuff down we are running out of.
I now make my own laundry gloop (their is a thread on here somewhere about it) so i will have enough for about a couple of months and it has only cost me £1 to make 4 litres!!!
I have also made my own antibacteriel cleaning product, i hav learnt alot ff this forum and off kim and aggie lol good old bi carb, vinegar, lemon juice, stardrops and antibacteriel disinfectant is all i need now.
I am also now growing my own veg all the essentials likelettuce, onions, toms, courgettes, peppers, garlic and verious herbs.

I have London pidgeons to contend with but others ahve slugs/snails/cats/ dogs/ mice the lot.
Come on over to the green fingered moneysaving forum, at the very least salads and herbs are easy peasy and can do them inside if you are short of space :beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

my garden is big but mainly lawn for the kids to play so the majority of my veg is in containers and pots and i have a wide varitey of things planted up this year and every year it can be done and even a few pots of veg is a few pounds off your grocery bill:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0 -
Agree with all the other posts. It can be done. We have access to a good range of supermarkets but certainly don't manage to budget by doing whole shop in Tesco or Asda (in fact I loathe both of them & never go in!) We use Co-op for main shop, fruit & veg comes from our garden in summer or from local market, we use the local butcher, also health store & Waitrose for any ingredients we can't get in the Co-op & about 4 times a year, we go off to Lidl (neighbouring town) to stock our pantry with tinned pulses, fish, olive oil, vinegar, etc. I have a big garden now, but in the past, I have grown tomatoes, peppers, herbs, spring onions, salad leaves, rocket, french beans & courgettes in containers on a patio. It can easily be done.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
