Well I have had a very productive weekend in the garden. The weather was nice and sunny and it really felt like spring was upon us.
I potted up some broad beans, sweet peas, a camelia I bought and planted up some seeds, rocket, mixed salad leaves, tomatoes, cucumber and sweetcorn. I also managed to weed and turnover about half of the flower beds in the garden.
I was pleased to see that the fruit trees that I bought from Aldi a few weeks ago have taken quite well and seem to be budding profusely.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 607 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Hi everyone, hasn't this weather been great.:j Finally managed to get my Canes in and also got some more seeds planted up and moved all the seed trays that I had indoors moved into the Greenhouse as I think they should be ok out there now. Have loads coming through now, onions, sweet peas, peas, broad beans, chillies, tomatoes, radish but still no sign of my parsnips or peppers.
Having a break from the Gardening today as need to get some baking done indoors as we are running out of Lunchbox supplies but the Forecast is for it to be nice all week so shall get out there again tomorrow. Need to paint the Shed and make a start on the Fences, want to get as much done as I can before the Kids break up for Easter, less than 3 weeks now so just hope the weather holds out for me to get everything done."WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Your chillies and tomatoes definitely won't be ok in your greenhouse if it's unheated, it's still going down below freezing at night.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

rabialiones - only one seedling into each 3 inch diameter pot. Wait until the seedlings are about two inches high, wheedle them out of the plastic containers very gently with a fork to avoid damaging the roots. Handle only by the leaves, not the stem. Bury the seeding in its new pot right up to the leaves. This will allow new roots to form on the stem and make it a sturdier plant. It's very early for tomatoes if you plan to plant them outside so be prepared for them to grow leggy, in which case you will have to pot them on into a bigger pot. My tomatoes are grown outdoors so I won't sow the seeds until mid April (having at long last learnt my lesson that sowing too early without a greenhouse to grow them in doesn't make for good strong plants). When about 8 inches high, plant your peppers on into bigger pots (preferably 8 " diameter), mixing some chicken manure pellets or a little general fertiliser into the compost unless you are going to give them a weekly liquid fertiliser feed. Good luck - hope you get a good crop.0

Well i am loving the weather:)
I have planted out my gorgeous cherry tree from Lidle, and my garlic is looking great, with shoots that are almost an inch high:) I have got five chili plants that are now in toilet rolls on the spare room windowsill, along with a tomato plant and i have put four sweetcorn seeds into toilet rolls as well.
The tomato and chili plants came from my mother, a reduced bargain from morrissons, so they will all be indoor plants at this rate. Our chili from last year is doing really well too, with lots of new leaves.
It is so exciting, great weather and shoots and new leaves everywhere Leopardlady Leopardlady

Hi Lotus-eater - thanks for the tip, although I'm in Kent I know we can still get Frost at this time of year so I have brought the Tomatoes and Chillies back in today.;)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

This weather is inspiring me! I spent most of yesterday in the garden and have finally sown some seeds (peas and sweet peas), am chitting potatoes (second earlies, Maris Peer) and have filled the containers I intend to grow my veg on in (clumsy sentence sorry) and covered them in plastic sheets to keep them warm. I'm wary of the frosty mornings so the toms will stay inside for now...doesn't everything feel so much better when it's sunny?!0

rabialiones - chilli & pepper seeds usually take longer than tomatoes to germinate - usually between 2 - 3 weeks in my experience, depending on the temperature. If you've got them on the sunniest window sill, it's just a case of being patient, but if we're expecting a frosty night bring them in from the wrong side of the curtains so that cold air doesn't fall down on them and lower the soil temperature.0
