I'm impressed, that's very persistant! I'd have gone elsewhere long ago, as I wouldn't see it as worth the hassle, especially when Barclays' current account is far from the best account out there anyway!

This is because they don't give credit interest on balances more than £1 that's why. If they do give out credit interest, I think it will be one of the best current accounts up there.

By the way, I made that suggestion to Barclays yesterday. Hopefully, they will take this on board.

Personally I found Barclays service so far to be far in excess of any bank or building society I have dealt with so far. Good customer service to date. I'm sure there are other bank accounts that offer better interest but its a current account.

But if you look at Halifax 0.1% on their basic account, same with HSBC's basic account, Lloyds 0.10% unless you keep between 2-7k with vantage, Abbey basic account 0%. Only company I've seen offer decent rates on basic bank accounts is A&L. So in terms of a basic current account, Barclays are pretty on a part with them all. Unless of course you are going for plus or cost accounts, but even then, Barclays seem to offer decent current accounts.
  • As Martin pointed out in one of the newsletters, the benefit of setting up accounts on-line is that you are not pestered to take up lots of other offers! I went to a PB yesterday in Barclays, did my biz, and then he pointed out that I was not paying Home insurance by DD, so did I want them to quote me. See what I mean?

Just to update, I now have my new Additions current account.

The investigation into why the PB canceled my original application is still ongoing, I hope to have a answer from customer relations soon.

I still have 2 searches on my credit file, when all is resolved I hope to have one removed.

The PB arranged for a 100 O/D on my additions account, does anyone have experience with barclays matching their existing O/D?
On my original application I asked for my O/D to be matched, as this application was cancelled by the PB this has not been sanctioned.

How strict are barclays with regards to matching overdrafts? My O/D with lloyds is £3500.00 and i have not been able to get into credit for sometime.
