  • I don't really see how the blame can be thrown just in the banks court .

Would you lend money to someone without checking they had the means to repay it?

    No? Though not:rolleyes:

Maybe you should run our banks:p
Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(
  • You need to look at serious ways to reduce your current outgoings in order to increas eyour payments on the credit card (like you don't already know that!)

What were your original plans to repay this debt when you took the credit card? Or was method of repayment not really considered?

I don't really see how the blame can be thrown just in the banks court as the op was also aware that they were on benefits and close to retirement - however, apportining blame to either party is not helping the op repay the debt. Post your SOA so that people can give suggestions as to where it may be possible to make savings in order that you can throw them at this debt.

No you are quite correct, the bank cannot take all the blame but should take some. There has been another thread somwhere on the forum where a member who has no income at all apart from child benefit/tax credits has been offered a CC or loan by the bank. Not 100% sure but i think it is again LTSB and for someon who has no actual income it is quite a sizeable amount. I don't for one min think the OP is trying to get out of paying the debt but trying to work out a way to pay it.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

    Yeah. It is pretty great.

Same " capitalist investments " that have now run out of steam and are now living off of the backs of tax payers..?

Why on earth did you put a £1000 on your CC if you couldn't pay the interest?
Common sense went out the window did it? :D

This person is asking for advice, not your opinions on something he did three years ago which he now realises may not have been the wisest thing to do.

I suggest you but out and leave this thread to people who can post without being judgemental.
  • Get a £1000 overdradft on your bank account (short term) at least that free's you up to not have to make a payment (at the moment)

As soon as you can pay more (hopefully in 2 - 3 months) pay as much as possible!!!!

Its not hard to make £1000 - sell things in your house on ebay would make you £20 a month without a doubt, if you say you dont have anything to sell thats bull......but many people say this as they cant be bothered. If you cant be bothered ask someone to do it for you!!!

Take control and try to understand things before signing

Sorry, but the bank has to take a portion of blame here for giving a credit card to someone with no income as such and being on benefits.
For making food available to me, presumably Tescos are to blame for my fatness ?

Uh, no, Lloyds will expect monthly credits, they'll still charge the guy interest and if they feel it isn't being paid off at all (which it won't be) they might call it in.

That's if they give him an O/D in the first place, given that he already has a maxed out, fairly static credit card account with them and no income.

No, Lloyds shouldn't have offered the guy a CC. But he shouldn't have taken it or spent up to the limit on it. Both sides are to blame.
  • I personally think that those that jump in in the 'guise' of warm fuzzies are as much to blame for the appalling mess of the world's economy as the apparently greedy corporations, Banks particularly.
I say exactly the same within my family as i do on here.
If you can't afford you have no right expecting to get it. Whether that's cigarettes or new clothes or whatever.
I believe the 'softly softly' approach has contributed hugely to peoples expectations of 'don't worry, you have rights, it'll all be OK'.

There's been a complete generation brought up with Government encouragement to believe they have rights without responsibilities.

The outcome is finally coming home to roost.

No of course I am not perfect or anyway near, that comment is fatuous and unhelpful.

I do however think that some definite lessons need to be learnt.
The 'have it now' generation's attitude has rubbed off further up the age chain and I actually feel bitterly sorry for those caught up in it all.
We, as a country, need to re-examine the morality of our systems.
How can most people live on £60.50 per week?
That's not even subsisting if you're covering ALL bills out of it.
I realise there seem to be many scroungers taking the state for a ride but I know from personal experience that the attitude in my local dwp is we won't go after those we know are cheating cos they're big bad people and they may target us so we'll aim for the easy targets.

We need to have a better policing system and then a fairer benefits system.

Many people end up on benefits through no real fault of their own and yes I DO believe that those people should receive enough to live properly ie buy fruit and veg and not have sleepless nights worrying.
Maybe a 'pay back' system would be better so that a minimum amount is 'given' but a top up would be expected to be repaid after earnings return to a semi decent level?
I don't claim to be an expert, but it's obvious it ain't working at the mo, so lets see about making sure things change.
I wish the OP well and I think the CAB was a brilliant suggestion.
    Good luck.
    ps Sorry about the ramble!:rotfl:
