I've used norton for years and then last year i tried mcafee and I'm amazed how much easier it is on my system running this AVG.

In the past I have had terrible trouble trying to get norton off my sytem especially. I removed mcafee last night and searched everything up to delete associated with it, so far so good.

I've thought for a long time that Norton is overated and its the worst at slowing down the pc. Mcafee was ok but nothing exceptional, definitely not worth paying for. And only today since putting avg on have I realized just how much mcafee also slowed the pc down. I'm just hoping AVG will protect me as well but time will tell

my norton ran out nov, have upgraded to the full AVG 7.1, INCLUDES A FIREWALL,all this for £36 (2years subscription), to date i have not had 1 problem or virus with p.c...definately worth the upgrade,pc runs smoother as well
never put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow

i dont think its biased - norton and to a lesser extent, mcafee will slow even a moderate pc to below satisfactory standards.

I'm gonna have to disagree there. You couldn't haven't used either Norton on McAfee recently.

Norton 2006 is lighter than McAfee on system resources, and compares with something like AVG easily. I agree with Rex's comments that people often haven't maintained their system, which is often the core of the problem.

For me, Norton's weaknesses are; the scanning is slow, open such apps as Word can take longer, and known uninstall problems.

Norton's a good av (not excellent though). Norton Internet Security provides a solid all round package for someone wanting an av, firewall, spam, anti-spyware etc... solution. Just handy as it all comes in one package.

Personally I'd go for Nod32 (£25). It's one of the top 3 to choose from in my opinion, and is nice and light on your computer too. AVG is a good free solution.

We (my colleague and I) had a virus e-mailed to us at work a couple of months ago form a company we deal with who had got infected. Our companies mail server virus checker did not pick up on it. The standard virus checker on the PC's did not pick up on it (ETrust Antivirus). Fortunately, because of the techy type job we do, we both have AVG on our computers as well.

The virus was a new variant of the Sober worm and the other AntiVirus software did not have details of the virus, so they ignored it. AVG quarantined the e-mail it came in a soon as it got it, even though it didn't have a virus definition until 3 days later.

For my money, AVG is the best way to go.
