Broadband without telephone?

I have NTL broadband and telephone line. I now use my broadband for voip and I don't want to continue paying £10.50 for the telephone line which I don't really need. Does anyone know will NTL allow me to cancel the phone line and keep just the broadband cable modem?
Alternatively are there any ADSL broadband supplers out there who don't require an active telephone line?
Thanks

ADSL runs over phone lines.
Try asking NTL, I'd be very surprised if the answer is not " Computer says no!"
I think you can get broadband via satellite, heres a link

I'm not aware of any ADSL providers that offer broadband without a telephone line. There is talk with LLU that providers will offer that facility soon but I still think telephone line rental will be hidden in the cost somewhere. Currently most the cheap ADSL providers make you switch to their line rental company.
As with NTL you have a good chance. I had cable broadband with telewest in 2002/3 when I was in Plymouth and we had broadband only. I would have a look at their website or give them a ring.0 -
Found this on google, answers your question (yes you can).

Thanks, I've now found this on ntl's site http://www.home.ntl.com/page/broadbandfaqs
It says "You're not required to subscribe to ntl's cable TV or telephone services to have ntl broadband"
Voip call charges are now no better than the likes of call1899 etc can offer, so using voip only reallly makes sense if you can get rid of the cost of the phone line, so I am pleased I have the option to do this. Roll on when I can also get tv through broadband.0 -
wish i could have broadband without a phone line, i have ntl but bb and digital are not yet in my area, although i do have a bt line but... why should i pay £11 for renting the line when i dont need the phone, i could keep the ntl line open as it comes free with my tv. it makes these bb offers look not so good!spanky xx

But you still need to pay someone for the phone line though? Right?:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

No. With cable companies you don't need to have a telephone line to have broadband.
Which means saving freaks like ourselves can get cable broadband and then VOIP telephone like skype (which you download on your PC) to make and receive phone calls cheaply.
Edit - oh if you're referring to paying for the telephone line "on the internet" like skype, yes you do but its cheap like 1899 except you don't have any line rental ..... if you want to recieve calls then you pay something like £8 for 3 months... and PC to PC calls are free.0 -
so i am on cable why cant i get broadband then?spanky xx

I have an analogue phone-ethernet adapter so my phone plugs straight into the broadband router and so there's no need for the pc to be on. It's better than a normal phone line because l have 2 separate voip accounts (ie two phone numbers). One is used for business and has voicemail, call divert to my mobile if unanswered etc. The second is with voipstunt so I get free calls to any landline.
I was always a bit peeved being stuck with ntl because their broadband deal is not exactly the best available but it sounds like things are looking up if I can lose the cost of the phone line.0
