The Holywood stretch in question I believe is just fine. You have the entry into holywood at pallace barracks and the exit out. I frequently see idiots racing down this stretch and either ending up weaving or braking sharply.... or the alternative, they want to go off towards the harbour estate in which case they cut into the 'out of holywood lane' at speed. As you go further down the road, you have people entering the road from the harbour estate and then you have the junction. On the other side of the road, you have the same problem.
I drive that road multiple times in a day and the driving is atrocious. Letting everyone go faster wouldnt help matters.
That said, you are probably right on the 80mph, but it does start to get tricky because you would have plenty of older smaller cars which are not particularly stable once you get up there (especially since people would still apply the 110% rule making it nearly 90).2 + 2 = 4

Why are people ever surprised/indignant when police carry out speed traps in this way? Do you honestly expect them to erect a big neon sign above their location reading 'watch out in case you get caught here' and then another further down the road reading 'speed up again now, you're OK'? :-d
By the way, if you make a habit of breaking the law by flashing your lights to warn oncoming drivers about a speed trap, you're lucky you haven't been given a ticking off for obstructing police.
Because that's exactly what you're doing and although you might not realise, there's often a patrol car or motorbike further down the road from the camera operator. They don't appreciate it too much when people flash their lights and mess the whole thing up!
Carry on doing it if you want but just be aware of the likelihood that you'll get a b*ll*cking for it some day.0 -
exil wrote:OK. I've been driving a long time and have never seen anyone doing 25 on a motorway (other than in a traffic jam of course). There ARE minimum speed limits eg in road tunnels - but people still speed!
Well I certainly have seen an old dear doing 20 on the motorway coming down from North Belfast! I was doing about 60 in the middle lane, she was in the OUTSIDE lane!! She was going so slowly that at first I thought she was driving the wrong direction on the motorway! That was dangerous, no doubt about it!0 -
I'm not a peeler either but I simply cannot understand why people moan about these things!!!! The cameras are there for a reason as are the speed limits. If you are driving over the limit and get caught - dont gurn about it like it's everyone elses fault but your own. It is your fault - you were driving too fast!!0
-
AND - why should the cameras not be hidden?? The whole point of them is to catch people who are breaking the law by driving over the limit. Everyone knowing where they are kind of defeats the purpose of them.0
