PSNI Speed Traps

So the lane hogging idiot in the over-taking lane on a clear road can dictate the law to every other road user on how fast anyone can drive and not allow anyone else to overtake? I thought that was the police's job
That wasnt my point, if there is no other traffic, you shouldnt be in the overtaking lane, thus you have no one in front of you.I'd like to hear you explain that to the police if you were stopped for passing on the left, if the person in the over-taking lane wasn't turning right. "Sorry officer, I wasn't overtaking that car, just passing it". !!!!!! It's obvious that if traffic is moving in queues during busy times you are going to get times when one lane is moving more slowly that the other. It's good to know you approve of breaking this law anyway, seeing as it happens all the time rather than adhere to what the highway code states.
What you are suggesting is that you follow the letter of the english dictionary definition and being pedantic about not passing on the inside. So how can you then ignore the fact that by doing so, you are holding the overtaking lane when there is no one inside you and you are not overtaking anyone?
If common sense prevails and passing and overtaking are considered differently, the this does not apply. If we wish to be pedantic about the definition, it means that an individual caught behind someone hogging the overtaking lane will be breaking the law no matter what they do....
Just an addition: Whether it is wrong or not, I find it unlikely that everyone criticising is doing so without hypocrisy. This is a thread about speeding, so if you live in that particular glass house, what right have you to throw stones?2 + 2 = 4

My first post was on page 2 noting cameras on the sydenham bypass!
The overtaking lane was in disagreement with your assertion that hogging the overtaking lane is a worse offence than speeding. It was not me introduced the idea.
At the end of the day, although you ignored the point altogether, no one who speeds has any real right to complain about other aspects of the road law.2 + 2 = 4

Do the 'overtaking' lane hoggers, who hold other motorists up, not contribute to speeding as they delay journeys?
How many are ever pulled over and prosecuted for this as opposed to being fined speeding? (It is an offence, namely - remaining in the overtaking lane longer than is necessary).
I'd say hardly any are, because it would take more effort to detect and deal with them than lying in a van with a camera.
Everything now with the Police seems to be 'getting to the root of the problem and working with the community blah blah blah'. How about tackling the idiots who never pull over from the offside lane who are a bigger scourge on the roads than someone who is a few mph over the speed limit.sufferinsnickerinrickrastadley0 -
How about they quit on the people who are a few mph over and concentrate on the ones who are alot over? Go for those who are approaching 40 or over in built up areas where they are a true hazard.....2 + 2 = 4

I have now seen on the main road between holywood and tillysburn junction on 2 occasions - not a speed gun i could see, but a police car clearly having stopped someone.
There was also someone stopped on the gilnahirk road last night.
Good for them in these instances, people are always going way too fast in these areas.2 + 2 = 4

Would it be ok to post Reg numbers and car makes of habitual offenders of outside lane hogging?0
