Barclays £100 How many people got a rejection?

Options
Well i was quick enough to get the application in. I even got an email saying due to excess demand it would be delayed up to ten days. But today i got my rejection letter for the Barclays account!

Apparently my credit score was not high enough. I thought it would be interesting to see just how many people get this reply, now that Barclays have realised what a boo boo they made. They offer a "Cash card Account" which i'm sure is a useless account too.

I really hope some of you guys and gals get the account and bonus money :T and enjoy something great courtesy of Barclays Bank - who must be feeling a littel  !

  • Got rejection letter too this morning....first time I've been rejected because my credit score wasn't high enough  Think they are using that as a convenient excuse I think!! At least my other half got his application approved!
  • Just got my rejection letter today too. Feels like a right slap in the face, especially after taking out an insurance policy with them recently!

Must have been rejected cos my sis used to work for Banclays Bark 25 years ago and she took a pen home without telling 'em!

  • After applying for the Barclay’s online account, the very night I heard about it via Martin’s email, I received the paperwork asking me to confirm my identity. At this point I thought, “£100 here we come” and started to plan my Barclay’s paid for night out with some friends.

After reading some of the updates on the site I decided to phone Barclays to check that the offer was still available. Of course this is when I started to feel the rug beneath my feet shift a little. According to the pleasant sounding young lady, who was quite obviously reading from a script hurriedly compiled by Barclay’s senior managers, the letter simply meant that I hadn’t been successful in my application.

Of course, how silly of me, obviously receiving a letter asking me to call into my local branch, alluded to the fact that I wasn’t good enough to open a basic account. Being the type of person that takes bad news on the chin, I explained to her that she was mistaken and went on to explain that when you open a bank account, the bank needs to complete this check to comply with the anti-money laundering laws. After a few seconds of silence I decided to push home my advantage and tried to get to the truth. “Tried” is the word, she didn’t budge from the script in her hand. No matter how I phrased my questions, I couldn’t get any more information out of her.

Admitting defeat I wished her a pleasant day and proceeded to finish the conversation, but not before she slipped in that I would be eligible for other accounts. What?!? I’m not good enough to get a basic online account, but I would be able to open other accounts at Barclay’s?!? Can’t be right, but then I was dealing with Barclay’s, a bank that employs a Managing Director that doesn’t even use his own company’s credit card.

Well the lesson learned from this short and unpleasant adventure… get in quicker!

Well, I still haven't received a letter confirming anything at the moment. However, I suspect I will be rejected because I have a lot of accounts and credit cards elsewhere. Can't really see them being very generous in these particular circumstances.

Any excuse to get out of paying new account holders will be used!

I have have the same letter (about identity) but I'm going to stick to the terms and conditions and challenge them later.

I would suggest that it's not worth drawing too much attention to yourself in the branch otherwise they might decide not to give you the account.

If you stick to the Ts&Cs and are prepared to see it through then I don't see how they can NOT give you the money.

Barclays can NOT override your statutory rights.

Remember to do it quietly and politely and don't make too much fuss.
If they suspect anything they might pull the rug.

My guess is that Barclays will do one of 2 things
    1) Most likely pay out everyone who complains strongly enough (3 or 4 letters).
    2) If they stick to their guns there will be a "test case" at the ombusman and all other similar cases will be treated according to the outcome of that.

There are statutory laws in place (and the FSA) to protect people against this sort of thing.
Barclays cannot just make up their own rules, they are subject to the rule of law.

Stand up for yourselves citizens !!

I got rejected on credit score grounds as well (despite having good history). I pulled my reports from Experian and Equifax and no problems on either of them so I dont know what they are playing at.

I wont be going near them again in the future anyway.

I received a letter today informing me that Barclays have refused my request and the reason given was credit scoring. However, as far as I was aware I was not asking for credit, I did not request an overdraft when I applied. How can they base the decision then on credit scoring.
I have checked my credit report and everything seems to be in order, I have no late payments or problems on the report and only 1 search relating to a credit application in the last 6 months.
The only other factor I can think of is that on the application it asked if my salary would be paid in to the account to which I answered no.
They did offer me a basic card account.
Any thoughts on this, is it my history or are they just looking for excuses to turn people down????
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAD THEIR APPLICATION ACCEPTED - ENJOY THE REWARD!!!
