Have been with Orange for 18 months and today phoned them to cancel my £19.99 p/m contract, they have offered me a 12 month contract with the 1st 3 months free then £9.99 a month with a 10gig download limit, Orange told me that 10 gig is approx 5,000 music tracks but as i dont download music just usually browse facebook, mse, house websites and ebay does anyone know roughly how many hours this equated to? Thanks x

10 Gig is a lot. I use around 5 gig a month, and that is pretty heavy web browsing and downloading music. You would be hard pushed to use 10 gig unless you were in to online gaming.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

10 gig or basic browsing is lots...for me it's about 4 days (I don't do 'basic')
check the samknows website...see if sky or O2 have unbundles your exchance, if sky have, and you already have sky tv, then moving your connection to them will be cheaper, and a far better serviceUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
O2 premium is £9.79 per month( 1st 3mth free) with no download limit. http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/index.jsp It is a great service for the money, easy to switch once you have your mac code( you can order without mac code then give it when you receive it)

10 gig is alot to download in a month however it can be done. If you think that 1 movie is roughly 700mb, so you could roughly download approx 12 movies. But if you're only using it to surf the net & download some music tracks then this pack will be fine. HTHYou can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0

Bandwidth doesn't equate to hours, it equates to number of pages viewed, if you consider this webpage for example, it uses 20kb (because the images have already been cached), so you could view 500,000 of them. Even assuming a massive 1MB per page that's still 10,000 unique pages per month. Orange were misleading though, it's about 2,500 songs at most, not 5,000. Songs are at minimum encoded at 128Kb/s.0

Bandwidth should never be sold as "time online" because it differs for everyone.
An analogy may be "how long will a jar of coffee last", for some it may be a couple of days, for others months, but the jar is the same size, just the usage differs.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
Exactly, time is irrelevant. It's all about the size of what you download. Checking your emails and browsing websites would be grains of sands. Downloading music and watching youtube clips would be the size of pebbles. Downloading films and online gaming is the size of rocks.
I advise you download this monitor http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=285557 and try it for a week. Then see what your habits are like.0 -
Online gaming doesn't actually use much bandwidth your looking at about 15MB per hour.0

Have downloaded Netmeter, is telling me that in 4days ive used approx 550mibs. Are MiB's the same as MB's? If they are looks like im going to be well under the 10gig limit.Dont allow someone to be your priority.....whilst letting you be their option0

not too sure what a MiB is, but assuming it's a Mb, then 550 is roughly half a Gb, so you should stay well within your allowance if nothing changes.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
