Jennie, don't you feel the op is taking the pee out of single parents, when she claims to be one when she really isn't?

YOUR taxes dont pay for me to raise my Daughter... The taxes I have already put into the system & the taxes I will spend the next 30 years putting into that system is the money I am living currently off.

YOUR taxes pay for the first 18 years of YOUR free, dentistry, NHS treatment, perscriptions, education, glasses etc.. YOUR taxes go towards YOUR continuous free NHS care, YOUR JSA when YOU lose YOUR Job, YOUR state pention when YOU retire, and the other "free" services YOU take advantage of.

So YOU can stick YOUR taxes up YOUR own, However if you're still convinced their going to me i'll quite happily do it for you.

Dear God, not this old chestnut again -how many more times?

YOUR taxes supported people on benefits when you were working - OUR taxes support you now. We've had a welfare state in this country for 60 years, you'd think people would have grasped the way it works by now.

The benefits system is NOT a private pot that you build up and dip into when you need to; if you want this then the systems are called savings or insurance.

    I find it hilarious really.

YOUR taxes pay for the first 18 years of YOUR free, dentistry, NHS treatment, perscriptions, education, glasses etc.. - I pay those privately. YOUR taxes go towards YOUR continuous free NHS care, - Private medical cover YOUR JSA when YOU lose YOUR Job, - Never claimed it, never likely to. YOUR state pention when YOU retire, - That's paid for by MY National Insurance, not taxes. and the other "free" services YOU take advantage of.

So YOU can stick YOUR taxes up YOUR own, However if you're still convinced their going to me i'll quite happily do it for you.

You seem to feel that everyone else has simply funded the things they've had from the system. Presumably by the same argument, you only paid for the things you had out of the system. So where did YOU build up a surplus to cover all the things YOU receive now? Income Support, CTC, Housing Benefit, Council tax etc?

Even people who have had all the things you say, but have never claimed benefits, would by your argument have paid something towards the cost of people on benefits. Additionally, some people on benefits have never paid tax, so how did they build up a surplus of anything?

YOU seem to have a very aggressive attitude, but I'D be willing to bet that if you actually added up all the tax you've ever paid, it probably wouldn't cover 3 years on benefit. An average wage of £25k pays about £4k a year in tax. A lone parent with 2 kids and rent to pay gets about £15k a year in benefits.

Obviously I've run the risk of being called a bullly simply for countering an argument I don't agree with but hey ho.

If you have a partner -then you aren't a lone parent.
If you have a boyfriend who chooses not to live with you and be a family then you are are a lone parent and he should be paying for child support-assuming you have a child with him.

The rules on claiming benefits for a single person who has a boyfriend that chooses to live elsewhere is very complex and the dwp will not always view that person to be single. This is why I have suggested that op goes to the cab and asks them to look in the CPAG benefits and tax credits advice manual for further info.

The factors that the dwp look at if the single parent and boyfriend have a child together, share finances, take holidays together, how much time they spend together. There is a lack of guidance on this matter which sends out confusing signals and this is why proper advise should be saught.

    Of course it isn 't
And yes I'm a single mother-who at various times has also been a student, an at home mother and a working mother.
To claim staying at home is working is just plain silly. Mothers work at caring and raising their children always-regardless of what else they do-it's just easier for those not also juggling working responsibilities and showing their kids by example what a work ethic is.
