As for PCpitstop, I don't have it. I recall downloading it for a trail, however you needed to pay for the full version before it would act on anything it found, so i uninstalled it.

Assuming zonealarm is ok (Which im not 100% on, id rather you have checked it when NO security was on, as it just being INSTALLED can sometimes effect certain computers) ~
It sounds like something nasty is still in there
The Hijack log is clean, so clearly the problem is fairly deep routed

First up, does internet explorer behave the same?

DUH!

Just realised you have spybots TEA TIMER running.
That can create all sorts of problems. Disable its TEA TIMER mode (need to change from the BASIC mode first)

Then update spybot, IMMUNISE (Make sure its protecting everything) and SCAN

Then see how the problem is

Yes, the same problem occurs in Internet Explorer.

I switched off the tea timer, immunised and scanned - nothing detetced.

Ran Glary Utilities and CCleaner, as you suggested.

Couldn't download the other malware programme - filehippo is now one of the websites not downloading...

And the problem is still there, I'm afraid. I suspect that the problem with the MSE website is because images2.moneysavingexpert.com is one of the websites not loading.

Is that a pointer to the underlying problem?

Im sure it is, but thats baffled the hell out of me!
That suggests that your own ISP is conflicting somehow

And yet the desktop on the same wireless network (same router) works fine!

I've just tried doing a hard reset of the router to see if that made any difference. It didn't. Probably time to reset all the passwords anyway though, so not a complete waste of time:-)

Similar symptoms (though I can see the smillies etc OK) but a different cause I think - that one looks like a global issue due to a change to the MSE website. Very impressed that you've read this far through my techie problem - thanks for taking the time to comment
