Better person for what job? The jobs have gone but more people are here - I think thats where we have turned full circle back to the original post on this thread.0

If we want all foreign workers to go home - do we also want all British workers abroad to come home (and there are thousands of them)?
The US has strict rules on employing foreign workers - you have to advertise in the US and get no suitable applicants before offering to foreigners - but of course these rules are subject to abuse.0 -
And the dole queue gets bigger and the bigots get louder.....imagine having people on the dole when we support British workers being left on the sidelines because they can not compete,,,and then we complain that they are on the dole......hypocritesIt is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
I am originaly from Czech Republic. Living in England for the last 5 years.
And when I reffered to those Scottish field with strawberies - I used to be on one of them myself.
Long time ago..
Well no wonder immigration is such a GREAT THING in your eyes.
Hardly objective are you? :rolleyes:0 -
Fear of loss is the big motivator. The country can embrace capitalism and global economic markets as much as it likes. Unless peoples fear of losing their jobs and their homes (whomever it may be to) is addressed, capitalism won't matter, social unrest and strikes will continue.0

And had the farmer not paid lesser wages Im sure he would have had more than enough English people.
Sorry but that is just bullsh!t!!
Brits aren't 'hungry' like those from poorer backgrounds where there is no (or a muchly reduced) safety net. Brits have had it fairly good (compared to people from such backgrounds) and are far more likely to be of the 'i can't be arsed' attitude than people from poorer backgrounds.0 -
Your solution to the current rises appears to be to make Brits poor?
Stop believing all the media rubbish about the British. It's tabloid sensationalism of a small minority in order to sell papers. The British work the longest hours in Europe, fact!
Having a wealthy population (like Switzerland) rather than a poor population is surely preferable in bringing about a better standard of living for population as a whole?
Spot on , thats what I've been saying all along.we will soon be a nation all on the minimum wage.Thats NOT progress .
If we are all earning £5-75 per hour how do we fund the health service, schools etc????.
Earnings in this country are probably higher than some of Europe but look at the cost of living and we are taxed up to the eyeballs.:rolleyes:0 -

It is not !!!!!!!!, many of my friends and I with young children worked in the fields and orchards - it was money which paid for the holiday or treats that year. Many would still work like that if the farmers or the gang masters (often now foreigners themselves) didnt pay so much lower wages to immigrants.
My own mother did the same - I can remember kids being put into sacks to keep dry whilst our mothers carried on picking in the pouring rain.
How can you say its bull !!!! - may be you have lived a privileged life and dont realise there are poor but decent people in this country - your own people who you dont seem to care about. All the bleeding heart liberals rush to defend foreigners, what about the poor already here and struggling to live? Not quite as fashionable cause is it?0 -

No offense but I don't understand that kind of reasoning at all.
Employing someone because they come from their own nation & neighbourhood and need the money is decent, noble and right.
But employing someone who is even poorer, doesn't have even have the comfort of family, their own community , culture and language and yet is still prepared to do it for less money ....that's morally reprehensible and shouldn't be allowed. Just because they aren't born on British soil..
What you are effectively saying is that British folks where no longer interested in doing the picking because they either a) got a better offer elsewhere or b) didn't think it was worth their while for that kind of money ( i.e the reduced pay), or c) didn't need that job that badly because they knew they wouldn't starve or go without medical care or schooling even if they didn't work there.
The definition of "poor" is a pretty loose one. The truly poor, those who would starve and be homeless will take any job for the crappiest wage and accept the naffest condition. It's called "survival". The moment any of us can afford to be choosy about what we do and how much we earn for it....we ain't truly poor.0
