Not sure if anyone is still checking this thread.... but GREAT NEWS!!!! We received a letter from Lloyds TSB this morning saying that the chargeback has been processed and the money should be in our account within 6 days!!!
Thank you to everyone who posted advice. I hope everyone else has/will receive similar letters.
On related note, as we were still freezerless we bought a fantastic new Siemens fridge Freezer (with free 5 year manufacturer's guarantee) from a LOCAL independent shop, Webbs of Crickhowell (I am completely impartial). We got a great price and they couldn't have been more helpful - saw and bought it on the Saturday and they delivered to us on the Monday EVENING after calling to check what time I'd be home from work.
All hail this fancy new type of shopping.
PS. You wont be surprised to hear I paid by CC.0 -
Excellent news, really glad you managed to get your money back.
I'm completely with you on buying from local shops from now on.
The demise of Empire Direct has had the knock on effect of completely knocking my confidence to buy online especially as I suspect they (ED) continued to trade when the owners must have been aware that administration was imminent.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Like the poster above - LLoyds TSB have come up trumps with a refund - thanks to some help from the site here and chargeback. I thought it might have been a lost cause but the refund has made me and my friend fell a hole lot better0 -

I got a phone call from ED on my mobile, and thought that it was going to be bad news.
(for anyone who hadn't read my previous posts, my TV was in for repair when they went bump.)
Anyhow, he says I have good news and bad news, so I thought the good news was that they had found it, but NO, even better, it had been repaired on the day they went into administration and the bad news was I could collect it from Bradford.
Now seeing as I live 30 miles away that is not such bad news, so I travelled over on Thursday and collected it and it is back working perfectly.
Wierdly; in front of me in the warehouse was a woman who had sent the exact same model TV (Alpro 15" combi-unit) in for the exact same repair (Freeview stuck on welcome screen), but hers had not been repaired at all so she collected a partially broken TV, just luck of the draw on my part I guess.I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!

I had an email from Richer saying they have acquired www.empiredirect.co.uk website address and they will help customers with faulty goods.

Just had a look on EDs website and it says that Richer sounds has bought the company. There is also a section that leads you to believe that Richer sounds will be taking on the edextra scheme aswell, so that could be good news to some people.
On another note I had a phonecall from ED the other day saying my TV had been located and repaired but its at Bradford and I would have to go and collect it only thing is Bradford is 90 miles away from me. Oh well at least ill get it back.0 -
hi, just a word of warning to everyone out there- sonic electrics in bradford, and power electrics at thorpe arch wetherby, are the stores empire directors have reopened in new names- same managers running the show, and the directors still have the posh cars. everyone should stay away0

They have got a holding webpage up as well
http://www.sonicdirect.co.uk/
I can't wait til it goes live because I am going to send them an email asking if they any of the directors had anything to do with empiredirect. Of course I doen't expect much to come from this but it will make me feel a lot better knowing that they know, I know what a b*lls*p they made of running a business the last time. Funny how they got back on their feet so quickly - I wonder where they got the money to finance this latest venture:rolleyes:0 -

They probably finance it themselves, doesnt cost much to get rolling and get some lines of credit from suppliers and such.
Then they use the same old model to wind the company up owing people money and goods, once they have taken their healthy cuts of course.
They probably don't care that you know they were behind EmpireDirect... Why would they? The Head Honcho (does very little work)0
