I've just been thinking about this a bit more - can those who have complained about people expecting other people to pay etc please give us some more tips on how to claim other benefits? I'm thinking of possibly faking something like needed a new hip or something so I can get a disability allowance - any other suggestions? I'm liking the idea of this, might never have to work again!0

This thread has absolutley riled me - I'm assuming the idiots who are "sick to death of people having kids and then expecting the rest of us to pay" are men??
My parents received family allowance for me when I was born (I believe this is now the child benefit) and I am now nearly 34 so its not a recent thing. I am pregnant with my first child (so don't start, I'm not a teenager) and I will be entitled to the £190 - yes, entitled to it. The Government has implemented this payment scheme, not the people who have posted on this site so you shouting the ods at them is completely unreasonable.
I have worked since I was 17 and have paid tax and NI all that time so I guess I'm paying for my child benefit and my £190 myself?
When I was born it was common practice for mothers not to work and instead they ran a family home and brought up children. For those mothers who decide to return to work after giving birth, childcare costs are at least £140 a week which we pay for out of our salaries (in addition to our mortgages, utilities, council tax, travel costs, etc) so as you will see an additional £190 won't exactly go a long way but it sure is a nice unexpected extra.
On reflection, maybe I shouldn't return to work and should divorce my husband and go on benefits instead as you seem to suggest this is an easy way to gain money - that way you can pay for me for the next approx 30 years until I can continue to claim money from you by taking a state pension?
Maybe you should stop shouting about how good an idea it is before you encourage all of us people who are expecting "sniffling offspring" to jump from "working mothers" to "council house benefitters".
Anything free from this goverment is a bonus.0 -

What a fabulous day to have a baby- that's my birthday :rotfl:
Never heard of anyone with the same birthday as me before (apart from Paul Daniels, but that's nothing to shout about, lol)
Congratulations! XxXxX0 -
Just to let everyone know that I saw my midwife this morning and she had a stack of forms.
She volunteered the information too so I didn't have to ask for one either.
Have qualified by the skin of my teeth as I'm due on the 6th April:jHopeless by name, hopeless by nature.0 -

Yes, my wife visited the midwife earlier in the week and I told here to ask the midwife (wife is 22 wks now), she did and the midwife said she would discuss and pass on the infrmation at the 25 week stage...
Fingers crossed now that everything goes ok.

At my practice we have only been sent one pad of forms between 6 doctors.
As is typical the government announce this before they get all the wheels in motion.
The £190 is supposed to be the money to ensure all pregnant women can eat healthily throughout the pregnancy and afford fruit and veg. However there is obviously no control over this.
Free prescriptions ( as of 1.4.09) for patients suffering from cancer was announced on th news on Monday morning and patients told to collect the forms from from their GP.
Only problem is the forms haven't been issued to them yet! Same old same old!0 -
Thanks for the post Wookie. Have passed the details onto my brother who is due in May and to my colleague's sister. They hadn't heard about this grant, so it was a lovely and unexpected surprise.0
