thanks orangetiggs, my thoughts exactly. No matter what forum you're on you always get one troll moaning that it's their NI paying for all the children! Like you, I've paid enough to the gov and would like something back!0

haha you're funny. you know NOTHING about me, my husband or our finances. but just so you can sleep easy, rest assured I waited until we were in a good financial situation to have a child so that your precious tax money wouldn't fund our child. Can't guarantee that everyone else thought that way though...
I wonder if your parents took any child benefit they were entitled to when they had you or said no thanks, we don't want it?
I don't agree with those that have children purely to get benefits, or housing etc but I do object to people having a go at all parents for daring to have children and take the payments that they are entitled to such as child benefit and this new grant. If you have a problem with it then go moan at the government not at hard working parents who are grateful for any extra available.
I'm guessing you don't have children yet, be interested to see how your view changes when you do. Regardless of how much money you save to have a child you'd be a fool to say no I don't want child benefit or this new grant or the surestart payment (as far as I'm aware these are the only 3 payments that are not means tested and so available to all).
There's only THREE payments!? People that have kids shouldn't expect to have ANYTHING. If you want to have a child, have one. But don't expect anyone to pay for it,
Child benefit should be abolished so you can all fend for yourselves.
It would get rid of the 'get pregnant and get a council house' youngsters and would stop the higher classes from being such a sponge.0 -
I don't expect anyone to pay for my children at all, but under current government legislation I am entitled to receive child benefit and the £250 payment to open a child's savings account. Why would I refuse to accept money that I am entitled to, especially given that I have contributed via taxes and NI?
Notice that you don't answer whether your own parents recieved any form of child benefit or indeed whether you will say no thanks to payments like these if you have children. Again, I have contributed to the system, I don't expect anyone to pay for my children but I'm not going to refuse payments that I, along with every other parent, am entitled to.
Anyway, this is going off topic into your own little rant about how much you resent other people having children.
Thanks again to the OP, info about this new grant very helpful.0 -

You must be a fan of the Daily Mail I would guess:rotfl:0 -
I agree with bananahead11.
No my parents didn''t get child beefit as i am getting on in years , yes i work and no i don''t have kids and at my age would be a miracle and no i have never wanted any either .
I also object to this handout .
The amount of pregnant teenagers i have seen out -smoking , going in the pub and bragging about what they have to spend on them selves and they have rent free and council tax free housing !
For the record -i also don''t smoke and can''t afford to drink or go out !
The last time i went out socialising/drinking was 10 years ago.
I am quite happy to stay in .0 -

I'm sick to death of people having kids and then expecting the rest of us to pay for YOU to bring up your sniffling offspring.
PAY YOUR OWN WAY. Don't expect the government to pay your way all the time with your expectant mother payment, your new-born savings account money and the child benefit that you'll claim for SIXTEEN YEARS.
If you can't afford it.................shut your legs.
You will happily take pension payments which our 'sniffling offspring' will be paying for when they are working. Moron.0 -
i am glad this is helping a few people, we are due in june 12th, we found out about this via an e mail from our finance dept. So pass it on.
You found out your due date from the finance department? They're nosey, these bean counters, aren't they?
Will email this to a friend (about the grant I mean, not your due date!)

This thread has absolutley riled me - I'm assuming the idiots who are "sick to death of people having kids and then expecting the rest of us to pay" are men??
My parents received family allowance for me when I was born (I believe this is now the child benefit) and I am now nearly 34 so its not a recent thing. I am pregnant with my first child (so don't start, I'm not a teenager) and I will be entitled to the £190 - yes, entitled to it. The Government has implemented this payment scheme, not the people who have posted on this site so you shouting the ods at them is completely unreasonable.
I have worked since I was 17 and have paid tax and NI all that time so I guess I'm paying for my child benefit and my £190 myself?
When I was born it was common practice for mothers not to work and instead they ran a family home and brought up children. For those mothers who decide to return to work after giving birth, childcare costs are at least £140 a week which we pay for out of our salaries (in addition to our mortgages, utilities, council tax, travel costs, etc) so as you will see an additional £190 won't exactly go a long way but it sure is a nice unexpected extra.
On reflection, maybe I shouldn't return to work and should divorce my husband and go on benefits instead as you seem to suggest this is an easy way to gain money - that way you can pay for me for the next approx 30 years until I can continue to claim money from you by taking a state pension?
Maybe you should stop shouting about how good an idea it is before you encourage all of us people who are expecting "sniffling offspring" to jump from "working mothers" to "council house benefitters".0
