Can they take my pet Tarantulas and Snake?

Right. You need to get tough on this one.
Get a valuation anyway. Your own official one. And submit it after the OR comes back to you (as the auction house could well tell him they are all worthless anyway). Stuff what the OR states. If he thinks they are assets then he needs to prove that. Let him take you to court over it. You are allowed to fight back. The OR is not a god. And you wont have been talking to the actual OR either - he is the head honcho and does more important things than talk to the likes of us (like drink coffee, shuffle paper and play golf....) so you will have been talking to an underling. A lot of underlings are just out to make a name for themselves, as we all do I guess in employment. It does not mean that they are right or fair though.
I didn't mention my Westie or the cat at all. Even though pet insurance was listed. it was not queried (but then, there is no IPA either).0 -
whatever next!!!!! they'll be after children next saying they cost too much to keep!! Any advances on a 2 year old, 8 year old and 13 year old????
Okay.. The 2yo I'll give you £15.67p for and you'll have to chuck in the 8yo for free. But the 13yo you'll have to pay me to take. I have enough teenagers thank you!

I have one heat mat on one of the tanks, which is pence, and thats it. They are warm enough with the heating on in the winter. I meant that they would die going outside in these temps without extra heating.
I think what TF was getting at was if they all needed heat and light in their tanks, I must admit I am ignorant in these matters and thought you would need these things, then the OR is thinking of the extra running costs of having the animals and how much could be saved on your SOA. But obviously this is not a concern.Namaste DeeDee x0 -
im cringing and got shivers down my spine just thinking of 1 spider let alone 53!!!
could you find out how much it would cost to move them safely? surely if that cost shoots up it might not be worth it to the OR?
i cant remember who posted it earlier but im under the impression that assets were worth more than £1000..?
and dont tarantula's shed their skin? if they demand the spiders could you not put 53 skins in boxes and claim they are all sleeping?
i hope you get to keep them too, it would destroy me if i had my dog taken away, i dread to think how it must feel to face losing all those animals... good luck!0 -
skylights right fight them over the dicision, i have 3 jack russell i didnt mention them but had pet insurance on my SOA aswell they didnt ask what pets they was.
im sorry you didnt find this site earlier as everyone says when you have the OR interview dont offer info only answer the questions and now we know why.
i couldnt imagin what your going through as my dogs are my babies and could bear the risk of losing them. even the little pup ive got shes 5mths old and such a pain she thinks shes the boss, you would think the other 2 would knock her into shape but no they let her get away with it.
i hope it all goes well for you

How the hell can an auction house accurately value spiders??? I guess that they have no experience in spiders, They may be able to give accurate auction prices for electrical goods, furniture and cars, but inverts!! that's ridiculous.
I know from a friend that certain odd items dont ever get to the auction house, they are sold seperately, like the contents of the bondage dungeon/brothel I once bought.
I hope you get to keep your pets.

I have absolutely no advice to add - know nothing about the process. However, just wanted to say that I hope this OR is wrong and that you get to keep your pets. Had to look more than twice at the thread title.

http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/freedomofinformation/technical/TechnicalManual/Ch1-12/Chapter8/part4/part_4.htm#8.30A bankrupt’s pets will not usually have a realisable value but where they are valuable, the official receiver should sell them. Such a sale may be to a relative or friend of the bankrupt, provided the official receiver is satisfied that he has obtained the market value of the pet.
Also maybe: Pedigree pets - paragraph 31.6.47

yeah i can understand pedigree pets that cost about 1k as some can go up to 3k bred from champion pets but spiders and snakes are very common pets now. it also depends on age of pets and temprement but surely the OR interest should be to offer the interest to a family member than sell to a stranger. i know nothing about spiders but my friend has a snake and it only lets her hold it not her husband so surely that should be a factor aswell in decideing this.If you want to see the rainbow ,you gotta put up with some rain0

whilst I agree then i strongly doubt the handlability of a snake would enter into the equation about if the animal should be sold as part of the BR...
I guess it's a very tough thing really - I'm torn between taking the ORs side (TO A POINT!!!) and knowing I'd never willingly seperate from the 2 annoying furballs that maskerade as cats in my home and the hippo/kangaroo/psycotic dog that thinks I'm her whole universe... I'm lucky that none of them are pedigree and I'm not looking at BR... BUT on the other hand if I was going BR then I can see the argument for why the OR has the right to take any assets and getting as much as possible for the creditors as they can... it is I guess their job...
OP I think I would put together as much evidence as possible about the value of the spiders and other pets (yuuuuuuuuuck!!! sorry I honestly loathe spiders and I'm afraid that 50 odd T's would not be my idea of a "cute" pet collection
), the "running costs" for them - ie how much power the heat matts might use in a month and the cost of this, food, etc etc, and the cost of safely moving them without causing them harm in the current climate. Basically present a business plan for why they should remain with you and would cost as much or more than their value to move safely. DFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
