Can they take my pet Tarantulas and Snake?

hi, the only thing I can suggest is see if family or friends can help you out with this if it all possible.
by the time the OR does get a specialist in to collect the pets and pays for that, then storage and transport to the auction house and then the auction costs, there will be very little left over. and what happens if they do not sell? and express your concerns too that they will go to good homes and people who know how to take care of them properly as well?
More hugs because this is so heart-breaking for you. so sorry I can't be of more help.

The thing is, a good few of them are pre moult atm and it will kill them if they are moved. They cant be moved as they are and have to be packed up tightly to be transported, which can be disastrous with a pre moult T! Our biggest, possibly rarest one is very big and in major pre moult. He will die if moved and packed

The auction house arent selling them, only valuing them, by the details I had to give. Apparantly, as they are assets, they are no longer ours! So I have them here, having to feed and water and look at them when they may be taken away
We will have to pack them up if they go as they wont do it properly, all more painful.
They cant be transported in this weather without added heat, and I hardly think that they will have those facilities when coming to get them

I have one heat mat on one of the tanks, which is pence, and thats it. They are warm enough with the heating on in the winter. I meant that they would die going outside in these temps without extra heating.:T 434 of 2008 :j0 -
Hiya spidwoman
I'm really sorry to hear that you're facing losing your pets
You mentioned that you'd received most of your spiders from friends, as a result of breeding programmes.
Is it possible that the OR is looking at your spiders from the breeding point of view, while you're - naturally - seeing them as your pets? If so, would that make them more valuable?
I tried googling on this, but I have to confess that I'm an arachnophobe, so wasn't terribly successful
It's just a thought. But if you think the OR is thinking along those lines, and you think he's wrong, it might give you the chance to make a case showing why he's wrong.
Good luck whatever happens!0 -
Thank you for this post. I really do hope you get to keep your pets.
However, it has certainly made me think. I will make absolutely sure my husband knows NOT to mention our children's ponies, especially as two are in foal. I would be devastated to lose them.:j BSC 221 :jJanuary 2009 Club Number 7BR 30.01.090 -
The OR did ask us if they were for breeding or pets only, and I did tell him they were only pets and I don't make or intend to make any money from them. It obviously hasn't made any difference
Thanks coolcait
Dorothy - DO NOT MENTION YOUR PONIES!!! Even though they are the children's, they may see that as 'convenient'. The OR told me about someones horse, which they valued at £700, and the owners had to pay £500 to keep it! Especially as yours are in foal also, as the impression I got from the OR is that if I had bred any of my spiders, the babies or money from the babies would be classed as assets!!
I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. I was hoping bankruptcy would reduce my stress. My hubby got laid off in October and hasn't found any work, I am registered disabled and now we're being penalised for having pets! Makes me sad

I was just talking to my OH about the girls ponies and he remembered they paid for them - so the OR would be able to see the money going straight from their bank accounts to the stud, thank goodness we did it that way. Though hopefully it won't happen that we have to prove it.
It sounds so unfair about your pets, could you talk to the citizens advice bureau about it as it does seem like your OR is grasping at straws.:j BSC 221 :jJanuary 2009 Club Number 7BR 30.01.090 -
How the hell can an auction house accurately value spiders??? I guess that they have no experience in spiders, They may be able to give accurate auction prices for electrical goods, furniture and cars, but inverts!! that's ridiculous.
I know from a friend that certain odd items dont ever get to the auction house, they are sold seperately, like the contents of the bondage dungeon/brothel I once bought.
I hope you get to keep your pets.0 -
