  • But funny:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yes I know it wasn't very helpful and I wasn't trying to mock the OP's situation.
I do know people who would actually do stuff like that though.
  • I cant believe the OR wants your pets!!! Thats ridiculous and he's an idiot!! do they take pedigree dogs too??? Ive got one and she aint going nowhere without me!!

He said they would do the same with any expensive pets, even though mine aren't expensive. Don't mention her!

I just wanted to say I really hope you get to keep them. I can't believe pets can be considered as assets. We've got two dogs which were quite costly (about £1500 combined), but they are purely pets and we'd be so upset if they were taken away from us. Good luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
    Finally bought a home

  • Have all your dealing been with the examiner so far? If yes i would consider getting the Assistant Official receiver's name and phone number. Give them a call, explain the situation: reiterrate that they are pets.
Call their bluff: say if the OR is claiming as an asset you want them to say so in writing, then you will immediately deliver the snake and tarantulas to their office. I would love to know what they will do if faced with having them delivered to their offices!
Out of interest: does it costs a lot to feed them? is the expense in line with the allowable expense for pets £20pcm?
This is from the technical manual chaper on income payments agreements:

    31.7.30 Pets
Pet food/care should, in general, be included as part of the family housekeeping expenditure when making an income payments calculation. If the bankrupt has not included the cost of caring for a pet within the housekeeping expenditure then an allowance of up to £20 per month can be included for the care of all family pets. Should the bankrupt maintain above average numbers of pets, or exotic pets requiring specialist food/care, he/she should be informed that the additional cost of funding the pet(s) must come from the amount of surplus income left with him/her after deduction of the assessed IPA/IPO contribution.

The snake costs £1 a week to feed, for a large mouse/small rat, and the spiders cost £2 a week to feed. That's for all of them, not each! They only eat one cricket a week each, and dont eat when in premoult, so most of the time only just over half are eating anyway. So yep, well within the £20 allowance :)
