I must admit I had a bit of a small windfall and just happened to look on autotrader as my farther in law was looking for a car.

I ended up buying a Volvo S80 2007 (new shape, full service history from volvo main dealer with just over 30,000 miles on the clock ) 2.4D Cost £33K With all the extras new purchased for less than £10K:eek:

Over £23K drop in less than two years, ouch

Can't believe there are 2 volvo owners in the same thread.
  • It's interesting - just over a year ago I bought my daughter an old banger (just for local pootling about) for £100 with full MOT and 3 months Road Tax.
She err, shall we say 'damaged' it beyond repair recently. no Tax left on or MOT and got £75 for it.
    Not bad!!:T

Reasonably large engined cars are not expensive to run, providing that the car isn't too big and heavy. There is a belief that they are. When I say reasonably large, I mean 1.8-2.5L in a medium saloon sort of thing.

I don't see any reason why 2nd hand car prices will fall much - demand is there as people stop buying new.
    Happy chappy

me, well i get my s80 on wednesday but its a lease as i got fed up chucking money at my garage to fix my bmw 740.

Its an 07 plate (ex airport limo) lease with all servicing, tyres and tax covered for £195 a month.

How do you find your s80 any issues to watch out for?

Same here virgin atlantic dumped a load so great time to snap one up. (i presume you have the geartronic i took me a bit of time to get used to auto and the electric handbrake)

Love it expensive on short journys (around 31MPG) but can achive over 55mpg on an over 60mph run.

I had the only known fault happen on the first day. The auto wipers and alarm share the same sensor and interfear with each other ocationaly (same frequancy or somthing)
So your wipers go mad and stay on after you park or the alarm keeps going off.

As I said known fault so replaced strait away by volvo with the updated part.

But no other problems It's an amazing car for the money and I have the earbleading dyn-audio stereo in it which is great I just wish I could have it my living room.

PS the seats have got to be the best of any car.

im glad you qualified that one, the break pads for my 7 series were over £100 and some part costs were epic. I do agree though, a big engine will have a longer life than a 1liter that needs to be thrashed to death to get up a hill.

Basically governments for whatever reason want car plants to keep churning out new cars and will be subsidizing them with cheap finance deals so the cost of a new car in real terms is going to drop and this will force down the cost of second hand cars.

As far as I could see dealers are trying to clear for new cars they have comited to buy so are floging off second hand to create space.
