  • Hi there,
    Just joined to let folk who have never tried it, know what to expect if they decide to sell some gold jewellery to one of these internet scrap gold sites - as I looked here before doing it and couldn't find any descriptions of what actually happens.
    I checked a few sites and chose one based on appearance and price offered for 9ct gold - cashforyourgold.co.uk - offering £54 via their site calculator for a broken 9g gold chain.
    Printed off description form and posted it all off Saturday morning using special delivery - £4.60. Had to borrow that as budget all shot to hell this month, hence selling chain in first place.
    Post Office couldn't find the company using their business address checker thing which didn't fill me with confidence but it was a hit or bust situ as there aren't any pawn shops or similar round these parts so just sent it and hoped for the best.
    Monday morning got a call to say my 9g weight estimate was spot on, but the 'lab' had found 3g of 'solder and impurities', which left 6g of gold. At £6 per gram that was £36 but they had to take £6 profit so I could have £30.
    Since I am a defeated man these days I said ok without bothering to haggle. I was promised the money in my bank account within 2 hours using a fast payment service I've never heard of before. When it didn't appear by Tuesday morning I called to find out why - turns out my bank doesn't allow this new service but the money would clear within 3 working days. Got the money today.
    Hope someone finds this helpful.

    I was going to use this company (so glad I didn't) but google'd them first and read the crappy reports (I said it before and I'll say it again - google is your friend) instead I used www.hattongardenmetals.com

    I sent via special delivery and recieved an email within 24hrs confirming the weight, price etc and that they had paid the money into my bank, and sure enough they had!

    I got £215 for my chain - please see my earlier post.

    Sorry to hear you got ripped off by these scam merchants.:mad:

    I also sent the chain to http://www.hattongardenmetals.com/index.aspx
    posted it yesterday by special delivery.
    Received an email and telephone call this morning confirming £209.84.

    "Thanks for submitting your gold, it has now been verified and full details are as
    follows: -

    9ct = 30.9g @ 6.791/gram - Total £209.84

    Total = £209.84"

    Never used this company before but really impressed by the service.

    Thanks to the OP, great find.

  • well i sent my chain off today to hatton garden, so hopefully il get a call tomorrow - and I have just reserved one of the chains as linked on page 4, the 100g rope chain, i mean if its descibed as such, then it either a mistake with the weight, or it really is 100g, they will give £686 for 100g, so if it is the right weight il be laughing!!! anyone else feeling this is all too good to be true???? I feel like this is all to easy, hmmmmm!!!

    I dont know anything about gold, but it cant be 100g. Otherwise Argos must be making a massive loss. I guess weigh it when you get it and if its not the correct weight take it back on the grounds its not as advertised. Let us know though!

    I have one reserved until the end of tomorrow. Please let us know if it is 100g.

    If it isn't confirmed on here I may just go and get it and see.

    It seems that no one is going to pick it up by the sound of it. Everyone is asking to everyone else to pick it up and let us know. Well i hope someone will and hopefully will inform us.:j :T PLEASE

    do you reckon if i phone up they will actually look in to it or do you think they will just look on their screen which will pressumably say 100g?

    edit: the fact that it is not on special offer (well £3 off) makes me think even more there is a mistake with the weight of it because surely they would have noticed by now

    edit again: im pretty sure its meant to say 10g not 100g judging by the prices of the other chains

    I reserved one 100g gold chain for £141.89 a a couple of hours ago. Rushed down to collect it in my local Argos. With great anticipation I gave the assistent my reservation confirmation. A minute after she returned with the item. She took it out of the box and to my dissapointment it didn't weigh more than 10 grams so a misprice. Needless to say, they didn't honour it and I didn't buy it.
