How on earth can hallmarked 9ct gold from a major high street retailer be worthless??dont beleive everything you hear.
And yes they are worth up to £7per gram scrap value depending where you send/sell them.
  • Hi there,
Just joined to let folk who have never tried it, know what to expect if they decide to sell some gold jewellery to one of these internet scrap gold sites - as I looked here before doing it and couldn't find any descriptions of what actually happens.
I checked a few sites and chose one based on appearance and price offered for 9ct gold - cashforyourgold.co.uk - offering £54 via their site calculator for a broken 9g gold chain.
Printed off description form and posted it all off Saturday morning using special delivery - £4.60. Had to borrow that as budget all shot to hell this month, hence selling chain in first place.
Post Office couldn't find the company using their business address checker thing which didn't fill me with confidence but it was a hit or bust situ as there aren't any pawn shops or similar round these parts so just sent it and hoped for the best.
Monday morning got a call to say my 9g weight estimate was spot on, but the 'lab' had found 3g of 'solder and impurities', which left 6g of gold. At £6 per gram that was £36 but they had to take £6 profit so I could have £30.
Since I am a defeated man these days I said ok without bothering to haggle. I was promised the money in my bank account within 2 hours using a fast payment service I've never heard of before. When it didn't appear by Tuesday morning I called to find out why - turns out my bank doesn't allow this new service but the money would clear within 3 working days. Got the money today.
    Hope someone finds this helpful.

Don't know if this will help anyone, but I read it on the Argos Board recently & basically, Argos will honour a price, if it has gone up instore after you have reserved it online - as long as you can prove the price when you reserved it, So, take a copy of the reservation with you & stand your ground!!

Well a result the item i reserved i got it for the lower price,i was not going to bother getting it as i had noticed the price had went up and i thought it was a case of the price you pay is the price the day you pick it up,but i sent an email to argos asking this and got a confusing email but kind of said it item was reserved then i should get it for that price.
So i took the email they sent me and my reservation and when i went to pay for it they said the higher price but i handed the info to them,no questions asked they messed about with till and give it to me for lower price,i asked about this and that i was not even going to bother getting it etc and they said if an item is reserved at the lower price you get it for that price, wish i had known this before as the amount of times i reserved items and not went for it as price went up now i know they hounor the prices you reserve i will know from now on so ,so that was a saving for me of £33 plus i got a £5 voucher too

    HTH!!

Becarefull about the company you metioned, it seems they got the same story for everyone about solder and impurities. It does not exist that on a proper gold item of any carats. They done they same with some people on Hotukdeals.com, paying 8g less for Argos 31g chain which everyone is been paid in full from the good sites and also higher prices. If you got a chance you can always go to London in Hatton Gardens or hatton Wall ec1 personally and find a proper honest dealer, same as i did. They also paid £6.91 2 days ago, monday. Yesterday I think their price reached £7.18
