Then some dealers didn't even bother with screen prices (since they were meaningless)
I think you'll find there are many people who now prefer the honest policy of what you see is what you pay. It avoids the hours of haggling (which many people don't like anyway) and allows the punters to assess whats on offer at their ease. If they see something they like at a decent price they can buy it - if the prices are too high, they'll leave it.
Most people don't haggle with Mr T when buying a tin of beans. Why should they expect to haggle for a bigger tin can? Go to Morrocco if you prefer to haggle."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Those times changed a long time ago.

Meanwhile back in the real world...........................
Look, even the main stealers now realise that the market is in freefall. A realistic offer, and I mean a realistic offer, is very likely to be accepted.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

People with the attitude of "I want a discount cos of the current economy" don't get very far with me.
The prices are in the screen and they pay that. If they want money knocking off then I point them towards places like CarCraft who will happily knock hundreds off, but have the car prices way OTT anyway. so you the customer think youre getting a good deal havin money knocked off. when in realisty you aint lol.
If you budget is £7500 then look for cars for that price...
As for customers, well its all about approach i feel. If you keep the discussion cordial and fair then the dealer may well be slighlty more flexible.
Just like in any other situation, talk to people like dirt, dont expect a great response.
Incidentally Harvey bobbs, why wont dealers let buyers see glasses guide books? I dont mind a fair profit being made. also why do they still play the old..." ill have to speak with the boss" game ?
So funny..0 -

Sometimes dealers will let u see glasses guide or cap which is probably more likely. I used to use it sometimes to justify px prices if it was the final thing to tip a deal.
But i can't think of many industries where you would be privy to that sort of "trade" info and why should you be? If you really want to know there's plenty of ways of finding out online.
I can only speak for my experience of big dealer groups but the whole "ill have to speak to the boss" is geniune in most cases. Salesman have authority to give away !!!!!! all. I know thats not the way it should be, but it was 6months ago and if anything it'll have got worse.0 -
Thats a fair point of view and i think that the whole issue of haggling with used cars is a thing thats a sure fire winner for the dealer most of the time simply because he knows the rules and has the experience.

I let my customers see Glasses guide if they want, as 9 times out of 10 my prices are well below the "glasses Retail" price and I also like to show !!!!!! customers what their part ex car ACTUALLY books at, so they can see i'm not ripping them off.
As for the "need to speak to my boss" comment - well would you do something critical at work without being given the say so? I don't want to risk loosing my job just for giving away a warranty or knocking £50 off without putting it past my boss first.0 -
a big problem at the moment is a lot of dealers have cars that owe them more money than they are currently worth
this is one reason they can not budge much on a price
with a changing market a good used car dealer will buy the right cars for the market conditions
new stock is selling better than old stock as they are buying it themselves at a better price and marking it up at a sensible profitremember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice0 -

Erm thats the best reason there is for a dealer to budge on price. If they don't go back next week cos the salesmanager won't be there anymore.0 -
