Howdens or B&Q?

Options
Hi guys,

Any idea whose prices are better.

I can easily get a B&Q quote but i was hoping someone could give me an example of what the prices are like at Howdens.

We are looking for a complete kitchen with appliances. Am i better to do it this way or look elsewhere for the inset appliances?

Any other tips/places?

Thanks again

  • I've had a kitchen fitted by Howdens. Ring them ,and some one will come out and price it up for you.

We looked a couple of years ago and prices were about the same and we were looking during a B&Q new year discount etc.

Main difference was quality and reliability.

All 3 tradesman who quoted said they would much prefer to put in Howdens and when we looked at the products closely the Howden kitchens were much better quality.

In fairness the B&Q expensive range were not far behind but the budget and mid range stuff was poor.

    Would use Howdens again.

Just had a Howden's kitchen fitted. Very happy with the quality, price and service from Howdens. I feel my local branch go out of their way to give a good service and deserve the business.
Got my oven and hob elsewhere (B&Q Offer actually!) at a more competitive price. Howden's had no problem with this.

I recently had a Howdens kitchen fitted after having quotes from some of the other kitchen suppliers.

Although I found that the quotes didn't vary a great deal, one of the main reasons I went with Howdens was my fitter warning me that should there be any kind of problem such as replacement parts needed, Howden's carry stock of fitments etc & he could just go & collect. Whereas with B&Q, Whickes etc you have to order & could be left waiting at least 3 weeks for the replacement parts to be ordered & your kitchen finally finished should any problems be found during the fitting process.

I shopped around for my appliances, sink etc & saved a fortune over the prices charged by Howdens, plus got the brand of appliances that I favored.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

i found B&Q cupboards were some of the smallest around ( depth) ended up going with homebase and got a cracking kitchen solid wood doors etc, ftted it in week or so myself which was a simple task, saying that it was a complete overhaul back to the brickwork and new ceiling etc
  • Both a very over priced for the quality imo.

even some of the most expensive kitchens are of poor quality and most have the usual chipboard carcasses,

But its the quality of the chipboard and what is covering it that counts.

Dont get me wrong i fit both b&q and howdens kitchens if that is what the customer wants and they always look nice once fitted. but the chipboard isnt all that on either especially the b and poo which u can nearly put your finger thru. So the carcasses and worktops are very poor quality. The doors are ok but for the money you can get much better imo
  • Who would you recommend to buy from, and then have fitted by an independent kitchen fitter?
  • Hi Guys,

Sorry for the late follow up.

So can i get some example prices of what you paid for the kitchen?

B&Q Kitchen is going to cost us approx. £3K fot the Kitchen. Fitting with electricals and gas by their engineers is another £3K, which i know is a rip off because the surveyor who came round told us so (he turned out to be a local guy who grew up in same school etc so we hit it off quite pally). He said, for units B&Q are oretty much unbeatable but for fitting, they are a rip off.

This is too pricey for me.

I've got a builder who can do all the work for about £80.00 per day.

The question comes down to Kitchen Units, Worktops, Appliances - inset Washing Machine, Fridge, Freezer, 1000m Cooker/Oven (GAS), wall tiles, floor tiles, taps, sink etc.

I've got a Howdens Guy coming on Wednesday.

If the price is right, I will go with Howdens for the units BUT any recommendations for all the other stuff please?

    Appliances are a priority.

    Cheers guys
