Hi Moo,
I'm a long term lurker but had to post to support you in your decision to evade the genetic testing! My mum also died young from breast cancer and like you I probably have a high chance of carrying any gene but wouldn't even consider it. Carrying the gene is not a death sentence.
My Mum always said that when you were born it was stamped on your bum how you were going to die! Despite the size of my bum I can't actually read what it says so what is the point in worrying about it!
Just Enjoy!

Morning Moo,
Just going to throw my 2 pennies worth into the ring as well ; !!!!!! happens; we live, we die . As to knowing about a gene that may or may not beat the bus to our demise well ...
I like to live in blissful ignorance of such things & will deal with it if & when it happens.
There are those who live in fear & those who just live.
Glad to hear your usual great attitude is shining through :A0 -
Morning all. Nice to know that the rest of the world doesn't think I'm mentally !!!!!! either. Its just the aunts then.
Bored of DooYoo have finally managed two reviews, it was tedious beyond words. Only another 184 to go. If I had a life I'd have something more exciting to write about than value tinned tomatoes. Perhaps I'll cheat and visit the kids section of the library then I can use their PCs to work out what books are already on DooYoo and review away. Maybe thats a logical solution. Will raid the DDs bookshelves in anticipation of tomorrows torture session. Still I suppose its an improvement on bingo. 3tg, 2tg, 1tg, lucky lemons!
Need to go do something productive so that OH doesn't think I've spent the entire day superglued to the computer chair.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
The frugal fairy accompanied OH to Belgium. Appears hes had a fab time on a minimalistic budget. When I say minimalistic its not exactly miniscule but for a fella who ate a meal a day in a restaurant its really not bad. Considerably less than his expenses allowance which is the important bit. Scarily it means hes already racked up 50 hours overtime this month and theres still a whole lot of month to go.
The DDs are escorting OH to do a recce of a campervan after school. Decided it was time to do something eccentric and memorable. Leaving the actual planning of the whole thing to the DDs - turns out they claim they are old enough to organise the whole holiday *inspired by some daft CBBC programme. Fine by me. I'll be doing my own packing though thank you very muchly. Will also be explaining basic geography of the UK to them. Whilst I'm in agreement that surfing in Cornwall does sound uber cool I'm not entirely convinced that I'll be in a fit state to ski in the Cairngorms the following day. OH and I decided to encourage them to include several challenges for enhanced holiday pocket money so whilst on our epic mini-tour of the UK they have to fit in a beach, a castle - complete with pre-prepared guided tour, a woodland, home-made ice cream and come up with five interesting facts on every county and major city we pass through or remotely near. Figure that should keep them quite for quite some time.
The 4K allowance will be blown to pieces with this but a weeks rental is considerably cheaper than some drafty old beachfront cottage in the middle of nowhere which is incidently our back-up plan should the motorhome peeps be out of motorhomes for the week in question.
Its already Day 10 of the 4K challenge. On paper things seem to be going remarkably well. Thats mostly because the biggest of the DDs exit the account towards the end of the month and the house insurance is due in another couple of weeks to add to the fun. Still its making me think very hard about my day to day spends and more importantly what I lob in the trolley at the supermarket and I have far more money in my bank account than I usually have a week before payday which seems a little odd as I wasn't aware of spending that much month to month before.
