I've finally signed up with DooYoo. Have to say I'm impressed. Unlike Qype you can review something thats already been reviewed and still get the same points as the initial reviewer. That makes life considerably easier. Earning 50,000 DooYoo miles seems a bit daunting but at 500 points per review thats only 100 reviews, less if I get rated which seems to happen remarkably quickly. I've had 5 ratings in the 5 minutes since I posted my first review. Its all a bit wierd really. I'm sure there aren't that many people on the planet interestedin reading a review on a carp kids horse riding game but there you go. Some people have even more time to waste than I do.

Putting this into sensible English 200 DooYoo reviews equates to a Nintendo DS which is precisely what the DDs would like for Christmas. There are 117 days between now and then (good old google again). 2 reviews a day every day and I'll get there with a fortnight to spare. Guess thats one more thing to do every morning before work then.

Thanks TPA but they've already sold out round here. No matter though as Decathlon usually have lots in their sale section and I'm fortunate in having an aunt who sends all her childrens outgrown horsey clothes (and everything else) in our direction.

Its Monday already. Don't seem to have made much headway with anything over the weekend but the DDs are happy which is the main thing. Planning a major blitz on the house today as it really needs a good clean, particularly the kitchen and dining room floors thanks to having to wheel two muddy bikes through the house yesterday, can't get them down the drive because project Landrover is a bit too close to the house. Green waste goes tomorrow so I could do with blitzing the hedges too at some point today too.

Abbey and A&L are running another £100 account switching bonus. Wonder how long it is since I closed my A&L account. If its longer than 3 months back I'll qualify for this one too providing I apply to the Abbey. Will investigate later. Figure that little lot should keep me occupied for the better part of the day. Toodle pip all.

**edited because a forray into the filing cabinet reveals I have to wait until the middle of October to apply for an Abbey account. I bet they'll have pulled the deal by then.

Am currently avoiding housework. Not good. Have done my maths and despite going overboard last month we just managed to scrape by without getting any deeper into debt. Looks like we're on target to be sub 20K by Christmas after all. Not a hope in hell of getting there by my birthday but definately by Christmas. Especially if I can stick to the 4K challenge which is getting more challenging by the minute. Despite blowing a small fortune at Mr Ts we've run out of clingfilm, forgotten the Christmas cake sherry, run out of sultanas and milk and the fruit bowls looking rather pathetic. I can get milk in the village but everything is is at least double what I'd pay at a supermarket. Hopefully I can eek it all out until Friday. Have told the DDs if the TV does die we won't be replacing it. That should make them think a little more about turning it on to kill time. We won't be completely TV less though, I'm not quite that mean.

Postie brought half the ferry vouchers and a £10 gift voucher from Pigsback. Whoo hooo. Unfortunately they've changed their voucher supplier so all the normal retailers have disappeared leaving me with a choice of hotel chains, foodie places that don't exist around here or halfords. At least OH will be a happy chappy.

Can't get the wheelie bin into the garden so trimming hedges is a bit pointless as it will take an eternity to carry all the clippings through the house. Right. 2 dooyoo reviews, whatever surveys are in my in-box and then I'm turning the PC off until the DDs have gone to bed. Its the only way I'm ever going to get anything done.

  • I've just discovered your delightful stream-of-consciousness thread, and the 4k challenge. This prompts two thoughts:
    1. OH and I once tried living on £25 per week for food as a sort of Social Security experiment. It was possible, though dull, and involved lots of pork belly and pulses, as you will discover, no doubt.
    2. Buy OH the Allen Carr Easy Way to Stop Smoking book. With the money he saves he can buy another old Land Rover every year. It really works for a lot of people.

You raise some interesting points Old Grouser and stream-of-conciousness is a very polite way of saying I ramble away to myself.

Firstly OH doesn't actually want to stop smoking. He keeps going through the motions but until he actually decides he wants to quit its not going to happen. Think hes the only person who has yet to realise this.

Project Land Rover is one of his dreams. Hes always wanted to restore a car. This is it. Buying a new old one every year just wouldn't be the same. For a start I'd have a dozen vehicles in various states of disarray by now rather than the bits and pieces of the five that we currently have.

No pork belly for me. I'm strictly vegetarian. OH and the demonic daughters are anything but. I'm not being rigid with anything its more a go with the flow thing to see what happens. If I end up spending a fortune on food so that the DDs get a balanced diet then thats the way it is. They and their health come first. Of course it helps being out in the sticks with an abundance of wild rabbit, a friend who keeps roe deer and a vast array of local farmers who sell bulk meat at a very reasonable price plus we have a seemingly endless supply of eggs which I exchange for a variety of homegrown fruit, veg, marmalade and chutneys. What I am lacking is the inclination to do anything with whats on my doorstep. Mr Ts frozen pizzas are far far too easy. Obviously they're not as tasty as homemade ones but when I walk in the door completely shattered its sometimes very nice to be able to slap a pizza in the oven, grab the washing off the line, stick the monkeys in the bath, feed them, read to them and tuck them into bed. Of course there are other nights when I think I know we'll make apple crumble which is fab but means the DDs eat it as a very late supper half an hour after they should have gone to bed.

Actually as I'm typing they are munching away on dippy eggs and soldiers followed by apple and blackberry crumble and ice cream. Covers all the necessary food groups. Other than a couple of complaints from the littlest one about the chewy bits in the bread (curse of the wobbly tooth) its disappearing at a rapid rate. I'm having left over Chickpea curry (the bit I couldn't wedge in the freezer) and Mr Ts very cheap noodles in peace once they've gone to bed.

The daughters have discovered that Guitar Hero 5 is about to be released causing a flurry of excitement. Have to admit I do agree with them the track list is superb. Well most of its superb. Johnny Cashs "Ring of Fire" seems a bit wacky but the inclusion of T.Rex, Durran Duran, Dire Straits, Rush and Queen definately appeals. Guess I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for a sensibly priced version of that for them for Christmas. Thats if I can talk them out of buying it OH for his birthday. Between them they've got almost enough pocket money saved to cover it. Must persuade them to bank some of it although the eldest DD is most mistrusting of banks. She doesn't believe they'll give her her money back but she would like a hole in the wall card. Must find a way of making her understand that the two are linked.

Tell her that they put her money into the machine that you put your card into to get it back?
