Financial faux pas and other disasterous decisions

Thank you all!
The door is firmly closed on yesterdays major wobbly. I got a good nights sleep. OHs drinking was down by a third on normal to two glasses of plonk rather than his usual two bottles. Yes I know thats still hugely excessive and beyond being a problem to being a concern.
The DDs are home, exhausted, extremely happy and a bit like rubber balls they're bouncing round with tons and tons and tons to tell us. DD2 kept running downstairs till alomst 11pm with exciting news that she couldn't sleep because she'd explode if she didn't share. They've managed to squeeze in a ridiculous amount of stuff although plans changed somewhat when my un-official B-I-L decided to catch oinker flu. Usually they forget something when they leave, nothing major but totally expected however this time they deserve medals for forgetfullness. How do you manage to pack everything to come home and yet forget a bag? Yep theres a bright red 35 litre rucksack sittig under the bed to be collected next time. All is forgiven though as Super Granny has washed and ironed everything they've worn over the past week.
DD2 meanwhile whooshed upstairs to her newly decorated bedroom and promptly whooshed back down again yelling "Mummy Mummy I love it, thank you". Love what says grandad. "My door. Its fabulous." (Hama bead pictures stuck on with blu-tac) Is anything else different asks OH. Yes says DD2, my bedrooms tidy. Anything else asks OH. After aeons of looking round DD says "no". Kids. Can't thump 'em, can't donate 'em to charity, can't eat 'em either.
Grabbed a very early super long lunch break yesterday to view OHs newly shotblasted chassis. Turns out it needs another eight very minor repairs, unsurprising as they've thrown a minature rockery at it under high pressure to clean it up. Its then being resprayed with the stuff used to paint oil-rigs and should be availble for collection Friday. OHs engine is due to arrive late afternoon today or at some point tomorrow although we haven't got the tracking number yet so I'm not positive its left Scotland yet. More grimy parts have appeared in the house, as OH strips the axles. Despite the mess and the expense I'm glad hes finally doing something other than sitting on the sofa drinking and complaining about me. Hes off to Yorkshire to collect his new rifle today after dropping the DDs at the stables.
Went to visit my favourite air rifle shop where the owner is a superstar. Having a problem with scope movement thanks to recoil. Its literally bouncing off the mounting rails with every shot. Solution is a mega expansive £40 new mount. Or at least it should be. Instead he dug out a much better second hand one and refused to take any money for it although he is accepting payment in the form of a dozen eggs.
No chance of OHs work arrangements changing, booking confirmations for flight, hotels and security passes have arrived. The really annoying thing is he got to choose his own dates and picked those because it fell over a weekend off shift meaning he got more overtime but did fewer days plus he had plans for the following weekend. Ordinarily he'd have phoned me to check the dates first but didn't bother because he was cheesed off with me. C'est la vie.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Loving the thought of the DDs ricocheting around the house in a wild flurry of excitement, and with very selective vision.
Darn about your day out. I am racking my brains to think of any suggestions, but have just realised that there's no point; it's Moo - if there's a way, she'll find it!
Take care of yourself.0 -
Moo,
glad to hear you're back on form now but for what it's worth my advice is :
eat more ( particularly carbs & chocolate ), sleep more, rest more & do a bit less. How much time off are you actually having this summer ???0 -
Have managed to transfer my day out to a date t.b.c. in the spring with the option of a refund if that date is unsuitable. One problem down another ten to solve.
OHs boss contacted OH yesterday evening on his day off via a message through someone else (also on a day off) using the pathetic excuse he doesn't have OHs home phone no. Amazed at that as he uses OHs mobile a dozen times a day when hes at work. OH is rather cheesed off that his boss isn't contacting him directly. Especially when it screws up his home life for the forseeable future. Then again perhaps thats why the pathetic little weasel didn't phone himself. Apparently work would like the OH to pop to the pizza capital of the world at the end of next week to fill in lots of forms with a view to starting work on a contract out there doing 18 days on shift and returning home to the UK for 3-5 days "off" although he may be required to go to work if it falls within his usual shift pattern. The start date hes been given co-incides with his hotel departure date in Belgium (rather convenient that!). Theres no end date in sight. Turns out this could go on for 18 months or more but then again it might be dropped after a three month trial period. Either way the company only have 4 employees world wide with the relevant qualifications and experience so turning it down is not an option. We did discuss this a while back and he told the UK head honcho that he'd do it for a maximum of 10 days at a time but obviously thats not going to happen. After 10 days in a hotel he goes stir crazy, after 18 he'll be bored to death and then some and the impact of hotel food on his waistline is quite scary.
If it does go ahead I'll have to suck up rather nicely to my boss as OH takes the DDs to their swimming lessons once a week and I'd need to shuffle things around rather a lot to be able to go. I'd get round it by going back to school via the chippy after swimming so that they'd eat at a sensible time and I could do another hours work and still get them home in time for bed at 8pm. Thinking out loud again.
Lula - I'm on a wind down to holidays now and am only working Mondays and Tuesdays (and the odd days opening up) Ok they're both 12 hour days.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Every cloud has a sliver lining though as his company have a most excellent expenses policy with lots of loopholes.
DD2 spent today at her boyfriends house perfecting her tango whilst DD1 dragged OH and I to the shooting school for a couple of hours. I'm now mentally shattered, it takes a heck of a lot of concentration but I amazed myself by putting 5 pellets with a 5p piece at 25 metres. Clearly this wasn't a real 5p, as that wouldn't have been very MSE, but a circle the size of a 5p attached to a bright yellow duck *note no actual live ducks were harmed during this exercise*. Splurged and picked up lunch out blowing a whole £3 between the three of us. DD1 declared it the best day ever and is now emulating her dad by snoring on the sofa.
Will go and concoct something wonderous from the dregs of the freezer for dinner thus delaying the much needed trip to Mr Ts. Will take Lulas advice and pick up lots of very essential chocolate bars.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
I wish. Then I'd have a man in a suit to drool over instead of really dodgy nylon uniform trousers which melt when ironed (perhaps I need to pay more attention when ironing).
OHs new engine arrived yesterday but it was raining too much to risk unpacking it so I guess he'll be doing that today to say what goodies have been included and more importantly whats missing. The seller included everything that he couldn't re-use so not a clue if we need to buy replacement engine and gearbox mounts until we unpackage the thing. Can't progress without them but since the paint on the chassis is still drying he can't really progress at all. At least he can get them on order (if needed) for delivery tomorrow when theres someone in rather than waiting until the middle of next week.
I have one of those truly bizarre mornings which mean I need to open up at school for the rentees but don't need to do anything other than unlock and go but I get to claim an hour for doing so as its officially my day off. The boss would normally do this but hes got an appointment. If it over-runs I'll be locking up tonight and allowed hours wonga which co-incides nicely with job #2.
Planning a quick trip to Mr Ts. If I can escape in time I'll get to go alone which will halve the potential bill and prevent the urghs over the brand of toilet paper, the inclusion of lentils and the lack of pickled squid (DD2) and fresh mussels (DD1). OH will be happy if I feed his waistline beer. After that its a quick game of 3D tetris in a vague attempt to cram everything in the cupboards which are predominntly occupied by dog food, we still have 25 cans of left from the 48 purchased several months back which make things considerably more interesting.
Further plans for today include decarping the rooms that were de-carped last week and a further decarping of one other room downstairs in a very vague attempt to tidy up more resulting in the clean and tidy house I'd like to inhabit and minimising the last minute cleaning which will be required next week when a friend from uni comes to stay for a few days.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
