Financial faux pas and other disasterous decisions

I'm so not a Lidl shopper. The average Lidl shopper does not wander round with a manky envelope retrieved from the footwell of their car and a temperamental biro writing down the prices of everything they're placing in their trolley and rambling on to themselves. Clearly I wasn't intentionally rambling to myself but midway through a sentence I'd realise both daughters had disappeared and give up on whatever I was asking them about. I did manage spend £30.57p allowing me to use the £5 discount voucher from one of last weeks newspapers. It wasn't that easy though as the fruit wasn't great. Did discover that their own brand conc. washing liquid is half the price of Mr Ts so will give that a go and the dog is road testing the dog food. Have filled the freezer with bread although that was only 2p cheaper than Mr Ts. All in all there really wasn't that much to choose between them price wise and in places I think Lidl was actually more expensive. Still there was a lot less choice and an awful lot of things that I'd normally buy that they don't stock. Lots of very tempting sounding wine though. Taking the DDs was a big mistake as they homed in on all the one off tat asking for all sorts of oddities, we escaped without buying any unnecessary junk by bribing them with ice-cream. Still it did mean we managed a trip to the post box and a weeekly shop in under an hour which is a record.

Ironing done, halo polished, 50 pages of Terry Pratchets Making Money read, second load of laundry on the line. Large quantity of dried yellow rocks removed from under the dining table. DD2 reminded that sweetcorn is for eating. Large pile of old school books brought home at the end of term consigned to the recycling bin. More E-bay parcels packaged up. Still debating what to use the nescafe beans for. Can't vacuum as OH snoring. Damn shame.

Tidying sidetracked by the discovery of 15 ink cartridges in a bag under desk. Better still Mr T wants to give me 1500 clubcard points for them.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Bleugh. Overslept or at least went back to sleep at 4am after OH left for work. Struggling to become anything less than a walking zombie.
Paypal balance is currently £93 with 6 or so people still to pay, only 1 needing paid for postage so far as it needs to go via standard parcels. Down to my last 40 stamps. Might just make it without having to pay for any more postage as everything else is fairly small. Much much better than I anticipated. Perhaps thats the kick up the bum I neded to find my mojo.
Off to DD1s shooting competition once she finishes sorting her kit out. In theory leaving in 8 minutes although I need a shower first. Its a good job I don't wear make-up or do anything with my hair. Need to track down some suntan lotion as its bizarely sunny.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Hi, I have been enjoying reading your thread and have just PM'd you regarding the nescafe beans. I felt cheeky just PM'ing you though without saying hello here also:o. I'm quite new to mse and have not posted much.
I enjoy shopping at Lidl for the weekly offers - but only if I need them.

Hello Dedicated DFW and fellow DFWers. Today has been rather an odd day but my alternative parenting skills have paid off. DD1 threw a mega wobbler which is to say she took herself off to the otherside of the field the shooting club uses, piled up all the bean bags she could find (used as shooting rests and seats) climbed on top of them, covered herself with a foraged fleece jacket and wnet to sleep. Woke her up four hours later to come home, fortunately shes in a much better mood.OH is now asleep on the sofa. Early nights all round tonight. Was going to take them all to the Odeon kids club showing of Coraline tomorrow but it looks like being a really nice day so will need to come up with something outdoorsy to do instead.
Went to the co-op on the way home for a bottle of vino and emerged victorious with two whole chickens for £2 each. Roast chicken for dinner. Thats as close to meal planning as I ever seem to get. It would make sense to do a proper meal plan but I can never guage how knackered I'm going to feel when dinner time approaches, that and OH is a !!!!!! for saying nah I don't fancy that when something is suggested.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Todays plans involve more laundry, the packing of 2 bags for the DDs trip to Grandads, a trip to the post office to get rid of lots of parcels and locating lots of junk to fill up the wheelie bin. I'm sure lots more things will crop up that need doing too but can't think what they are at the mo. Off to surf in peace for a bit whilst they're all snoring.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

M2M,
You do make me laugh. I have the same yellow rocks and what could have been rice under the dining table. Added to that those school books, hundreds and hundreds.....DC.

Oh god things just go from bad to worse. Have earned myself the tag line "slippery when wet" on another forum. Never ever ever express an opinion on a forum debating KY jelly vs vaseline - turns out it has other uses. Expressing a preference for Very Cherry and pointing out it was a bit like fruity lip balm. Well. Enough said I think.
Meanwhile I have a cunning plan Baldric. OH turns 40 at the end of December so I randomly though wouldn't it be cool if he had 40 parcels to open. What am I thinking of? Needless to say I'm stuck at one. Clearly he won't appreciate 40 socks or pairs of undies and whilst I'd be ecstatic with 40 giant Toblerones he wouldn't. Will need to put some serious thought into this one. So top of my hit list is tracking down an affordable copy of "Manifold Destiny" a recipe book based on cooking on exhaust manifolds whilst driving. Its been out of print since 1995 although the US re-printed it in 2008 but its stupidly expensive unless it appears on E-bay and then it goes for monkey nuts. This is going to drive me nuts.
2 items still unpaid for but Paypal is now a healthy £114 with the remaining 2 that'll be £125 less £4.41 in postage, 69p in envelopes and an entire roll of selotape thats really not bad. Unfortunately I still have an enormous heap of things to list but thats a heck of an incentive.
DDs are now packed and best of all they did it themselves although I had to add a few bits to DD2s pile (no knickers) and remove stuff from DD1s pile- 5 days so 10 pairs of trousers, 8 pairs of shorts, 9 jumpers and enough socks to keep a small armys feet warm. A more cynical person would think she'd just collected up the clothes from her bedroom floor and dumped them on my bed to be packed which incidently would explain why several school dresses were also included on the pile. It does also go a long way to explaining why her bedroom floor was instantaneously tidy too.
A team of crack professional decorators started at school yesterday so I'm off to see how they're progressing. Also left a note on the bosses office door asking for more paint to finish the infant library. Spending this morning supervising holiday club in the school kitchen where they're making pizzas, I get the impression my role will be more that of a bouncer keeping the autistic children out whilst preventing holiday club from escaping to use the bouncy castle. Other plans extend to capping a disused water pipe (although the plumber who was providing the bits forgot so I need to go shopping) and after that yet more floor scrubbing and carpet cleaning.
I have three free days whilst the DDs are away and would love to decorate DD2s bedroom, theres just the minor task of replastering two walls first but it really does need doing and I won't get another opportunity for quite some time. Will wait and see what the OH has planned first.
Spent a couple of hours yesterday finishing stripping oHs chasis of parts and then roping it in such a way that we can move it with the engine crane to get it onto a trailer ready for its trip to the garage tomorrow. Slight flaw in the plan being the trailer isn't avaialbe until tomorrow so its sitting on a pile of milk crates at the bottom of the drive meaning I could park on the drive for the first time in a lmost a year - clearly this is a short lived thing as it'll be back in its usual position by the end of the week.
Off to make packed lunches for everyone and locate some clothes before pootling into work for the day.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500
