Financial faux pas and other disasterous decisions

Another hectic weekend over and done with. Visited the Land of Leather closing down sale in search of a table. The store was jam packed full of badly damaged goods like they'd shipped all the tat from every store in the vicinity there to shift it.
Took advantage of the free parking to visit Waterstones so the DDs could use their World Book Day vouchers. DD2 chose the special £1 books so hers was free. DD1 was a bit more obnoxious and spent ages choosing. Eventually I gave in and agreed to loan her the cash to buy a boxed set of ten Corgi Pups at £10.99. Stickers on the front were a bit confusing and I was expecting them to say they're actually £20 but instead they scanned at £5.49. We'd remembered the gift vouchers too so a set for DD1, a set for the pressie stash and 2p change.
Seem to have done tons of housework but the place is still a tip. Watched Slumdog Millionaire last night. Can honestly say I really can't see what all the fuss is about. Its not someting I'd watch again.
Seven matched bets later, most of which annoyingly won at the bookies I'm stuck waiting for funds to clear to my bank account. There doesn't seem to be much footy until Wednesday anyway. Profit to date is £410.56 cash, £60 Quidco (£25 already paid out) and £230 in free bets to be used.
Everything on E-bay sold but not for very much, still its more money towards the debt which is steadily dropping. Need to get them packaged up and posted on my way to work.
Went shopping after the DDs riding lesson and managed to spend almost £85 at Mr. Ts although they're all happy because they got to choose their treats. Overall we're spending less per month than we were doing before Christmas and OH seems to have got over the "its being Monday and therefore we shop regardless of whether we need anything" thing.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Allo Moo
I've been lurking here, and wanted to say congrats on the matched betting. :T Well done you! You're inspiring me to give it a go.
You made me laugh at the thought of the Henrys moving like lemmings to the cliff edge. I suppose the best thing to tell the boss is that they have a clearly defined lifecycle...:D0 -
Hello Hollyberry! I think the Henrys, like everything else around here are overworked and have collapsed in an exhausted heap. Theres no pleasing some people though. The cleaners are complaining that the new one sucks too hard, is too noisy and makes their arms ache. Mind you they also complain that bits fall off the old ones at random, not surprising as they're held together with lots and lots of sticky tape.
I really don't understand men. OHs helpful things you should know before undergoing anti-smoking hynosis leaflet arrived on Saturday. It apparently helps if you're of the mind frame that you do want to quit before you walk in the door. Obvious really. Which completely explains why he went on to purchase 600 filters for his rollies. Either he wants to quit or he doesn't. 600 filters says he doesn't but then hes been on about making an appointment. The mind boggles. I have given up trying to understand what goes on in his head.
E-bay is now free to list all items with a start price of 99p or less so I really have no excuse. I have a pile of CDs, computer games, PS1 games, more school books, the still unopened Ipod shuffle and £50 Virgin vouchers which I am tempted to use on wine but the cash would be more useful. Will see what wonders Virgin have on offer at the mo. Target for the week is to list 20 items on flea-bay and make a descision on the Virgin vouchers.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
I've had a very productive start to the day. £4 Paypal from one survey company, £3 from another which will be paid next month and 50p on the free scratchcards. Sadly I seem to be spending it faster than its coming in.
I converted £15 of free bets into £14.04 of free cash. My best return to date.
OHs boss tried to persuade him to fly to Italy via London late last night, having started work at 5am, work through the night and fly home tomorrow, which is now today. Sometimes the overtime really isn't worth it and on this occassion it definately wasn't worth it. Sleep deprivation leads to huge mistakes and in an industry where a single mistake can result in the death of 350+ people it really isn't worth it. Can't believe his boss was stupid enough to suggest it in the first place.
Haven't got round to listing things on E-bay. I've been severly lacking in the enthusiasm department. I have done lots and lots of housework though so the house looks more like a home than a charity shop storage depot post break in.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Heya Moo2moo!
Just subscribed to your diary...it is awesome!
Also just wanted to add that I know they are bringing out a new version of the Ipod shuffle very soon so you might loose a little cash if you leave popping your one onto ebay for a while? Might be better to try and get rid asap?
Didn't know about the free listing thingy...gonna find some more tat this weekend then!:j 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' - DFW Nerd member 866 :j0 -
Thanks Donner. Awesome I'm not. Dippy, disorganised, eccentric and downright barking are way more apt. The shuffles only a 1gb and probably a 1st generation so I doubt it'd make £15 anyway. Thats a teeny weeny bit more of an incentive though. I'm still awaiting my banishment to Diaryland with all the other MSE outcasts.
A very interesting e-mail has just winged its way to OHs inbox. Its not snooping!!!! He set up the PC so that we have his, hers and ours e-mail accounts but they all download to the same place at the same time. Its from his boss and implies he will be departing for sunny Spain tomorrow to resolve the problem that was previously in Italy.
Highlight of my day so far was disposing of a decapitated bird from the school playing field. Almost as good was yesterdays rigid mouse retrieval mission. Mind you its a great way to kill half an hour on a sunny day. Theres a dead mouse on the playground near the climbing frame... well theres a whole lot of playground near the climbing frame but not nearly as much area to search as when following the directions in the long grass near the hedge. The hedge in question is 50m long. The long grass is 8" in length and the decapitated bird was a clump of feathers and a wing. Bit needle in a haystack. Will need to stay at work a bit longer over the next few days as I'm already an hour and a half short and its only Wednesday. One too many days when I've decided I really can't be arsed and so I've gone home. Fortunately my boss sees the funny side of this.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
re. ebay - i can be pants about listing too.
i've got a couple of new simpsons 'mum' jigsaws - perfect for mother's day? well i've just realised i've missed the boat for the 2nd year running.....
i like listing the easy things - both to list and to pack + post. some weeks i can list loads and then i can't be bothered for a couple of weeks!0 -
Whoooooooooo hooooooooooooooooo exactly two months after I started matched betting profit has whooshed through £500 and now stands at £509.96p. If only I could figure out how to make that change colours and flash and sprinkle fairy dust on people. I've still got £125 in free bets to use too although guess where the money is. A 6.5/1 long shot won at the bookies again, fortunately one of the nice bookies which allows immediate withdrawls but its going to be days before that clears my account. Theres nothing much on until the weekend so I stand a chance of having it materialise before the next set of good matches.
OH is still here. His boss resides on another planet. The confusing e-mail was sent by Blackberry from the square meter zone within his house which turns out to be an internet black spot. The message wasn't dispatched until 12 hours after he'd intended sending it. More bizare is the fellas fabulous lack of geographical knowledge. Problem in Madrid. Hotel booked in Milan. Yes they're both capital cities beginning with M but there the similarities end. OH is most glad that he was too busy taking the DDs to their swimming lessons to have been able to fit it in.
Looks like eing a lovely day so I'm going to do some gardening at school. Obviously not gardening as the rest of you lesser mortals know it but the sort of gardening which leaves you making a tough descision between chainsaw, axe or flame thrower. Not having been on an approved health and safety course for any of the afore mentioned I'll be attacking the jungle with a pair of loppers and secateurs. This could take quite some time. Damn shame really. Its a bit early in the year to be paid to work on my tan but needs must.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Congratulations! :T Dunno how to sparkle or scatter fine fonts myself, but that is seriously fine earning.
Enjoy your assault on the foliage.0 -
 That is an absolutely amazing amount to have made in 2 months - must get my OH to get his head onto it soon!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 607 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T
