Hey all, off out again tonight if the weather holds. Another route to add to my garmin :D
Would have gone out yesterday, but took the dog to obedience classes instead.

I've still only done short 4-5 mile runs since the half, I want to do a long slow run but haven't had the time, going to try and squeeze one in either tomorrow or saturday if I get half a chance.

    Evening All!

Well done Pink - and even if you hate every photo they are useful markers to look back on (I dont think they look bad but I always hate mine too ;))

Good luck with Southend Uk and I can see you cracking 1:40 easily - since I'm not doing my half on 21st now you'll be way ahead anyway :D

Have a nice run Raphael - long slow runs are very helpful but if you cant fit them in yet dont worry - just keep working at it - you'll be sub 2 hours next half anyway so are you thinking of other targets? Sub 1:55 or sub 1:50 might be good :D

Okay so finally an update on me - I had to have a small operation today - no panicing please, because I feel great now - since it was general I'm not allowed to run for a week, then I can do light runs and in two weeks I can be back in training - I've worked up a great 12 week plan for fleetwood that should mean a similar time to my last marathon (I may be able to shave some time off but obviously not as much as hoped for orginially), so I now need to find a late November half to get my 1:15 time for London or I may just do Blackpool next year :D

The good news is I'm all cured now so am treating myself to sorbet tonight and working from home tomorrow and then all back to normal on Thursday :D

    Happy running all!

    Hi Catspaw and welcome :D

Its quiet on here tonight...where's the jungle marathon taking place? Sounds exciting - is it going to be hot??

I hated raising money for mine - in fact I have refused to EVER do it again because asking people for money in the middle of a recession is awful, but my best tips were - making my justgiving page (or whatever you are using) really personal - like why I am running for this charity and (although my work didnt) asking them to match any payments - Hypno did this and it was VERY helpful as it really took the pressure off :D

Also you can put your link to your page on you profile (but not in you siggie) and on the charity boards as well - many people on here sponsored me which was very very kind considering we are all in debt ;)

Also check out the just giving site - they have loads of tips as well :D

Evening everyone - Becky glad all went well and that you are feeling OK.

Last night I did a tough (for me) 35-40 mins. I had taken the weekend off - mainly to sort out my appetite issues;) so pushed myself last night. I am building up to 5k - then will work on time a bit. SO I ran just over 4k, then walked a bit, so total was 4.6k.

Am pleased - but was still ravenous afterwards:rotfl:
Onward and upward - with the odd step to the side

    Well done Rupe :D

Where do live by the way? Near any of these: www.parkrun.com

They are free 5k runs every Saturday so might be worth a look for your first one if you're nearby (sorry cant remember if anyone mentioned it to already ;))

Pleased to hear it is all going in the right direction for you becky :j

Congrats pink - the pics look good to me too.

I have my first ever race (school sports days aside :rotfl:) tomorrow  A 5 miler which is being treated as a training run and as an indicator for where I am at. And to get some race experience. Not chip timed - so official results at the end of the week I think.

    Number on shirt - check.
Plan for snacks late afternoon before the run - check.
Fear of being last and holding the ceremony up - check.

    Good luck tomorrow Krider :)

Dont forget to not eat two hours before the race - even if you're only running as a training run - you may well go quicker than you intended because everyone else is racing if you see what I mean ;) And try not to eat too many dense carbs tonight - I did a half once after a huge meat feast pizza the day before and had to be sick mid race - gross ;)

But dont worry about being late - they usually start 5 mins or so late, but remember to add on time for ueing for the loos (especially if female) and to take you're own loo roll (now thats a good racing tip!). Have a black coffee before the race as well if you can as it relaxes the muscles and do a short wamr up run of about half a mile or so the muscles dont go nito shock when you start and you dont build up latic acid which would slow you down :D

You'll be great - there's a lot to think about - but try to open your stride after a mile or two and really enjoy it if you can :D
