I have just ben through the booking proscess on FirstChoice and they STILL are not saying there is building work, They should be reported to ABTA

I stand corrected.....this is off the web site if you havnt already seen it

Following the recent hurricane, some of the rooms at the Crown Paradise Club have been damaged. Maintenance and refurbishment work is currently being carried out to the Crown Tower, during this time the Crown Tower will not be occupied. There is also a change to some of the facilities within the complex. There are six restaurants and five bars available. There are no jewellery shops, however there is a wide selection of jewellery shops in Cancun's centre. The teen disco is not available but there is a brand new teen games area. The advertised gym is not in use as it is currently being relocated and the option to use the facilities at the Golden Crown Paradise is no longer available

I did see this when I checked to see if they were still accepting bookings. The letter they sent me mentions only the gym, jewellry shops and the fact that we can no longer use the facilities in the Golden Crown Paradise, although at booking we were told we could use everything there.
Changing the 2 weeks isn't an option, with my job as there are only eight of us we have to book the weeks a year in advance. Thats why we booked last March, the only other weeks I have together are end of August which is a bit to close to hurricane season for my liking! Plus OH only has a week off then.
Last year was first holiday we had had in 7years as our finances wouldn't stretch to one. This years will probably be our last for a while as we are in the middle of buying a house, and I suppose I just wanted it to be perfect.
I have written to them quoting some regulations from someone elses post. Have requested to change, if they refuse then I've asked for a full refund as the holiday will not be as described in brochure and they are aware of that before I travel. Have informed them that we have spoken to the hotel manager and his description does not match theirs.
Other than that will just have to go and if its as grim as some of the returning holidaymakers are saying then I will prop up the bar for 2 weeks and drown my sorrows lol

You really need to get ABTA involved now, and in writing!

Also try to get a newspaper/TV programme involved.

The more fuss you make now, the better chance you have of getting switched to another holiday.

If you do go, you will be fobbed off with a derisory sum after a long fight.

Have checked First Choice current price for the 2 weeks we are going and its now £1800 more than what we paid! How can they justify sending people to a hotel they know is substandard because of the hurricane, at grossly inflated prices? They are taking the p**s because its the Easter school holidays. I grudge paying what I've paid knowing what I know, but I'd be completely gutted if I paid what they're asking now, and arriving to find the place is not as described!

    Well done.

I would avoid that area of Mexico for a long while.

Am looking at other countries now, but would definitely want to go to that hotel when its up and running properly again. Trouble is its school holidays very little left and the ones that are are grossly overinflated! Am wondering whether to book a cancellation a couple of days before or will that be too risky?

    2 adults a 3yr and 8 yr old

All Inclusive preferably. The main thing we booked previous hotel for was a kids club that took 2 year olds as he won't be 3 until a couple of days before we fly back. Reason we wanted a kids club as the little monster wrecked the last holiday every mealtime. We ended up with only 1 adult having a meal with daughter, the other stayed in the room with monster and starved! We thought that with a kids club we could use it at mealtimes if necessary.

Not really fussed on destination as long as its very hot, and would like sea we can swim in (not to rough!). This will be our last holiday for a while as we've just bought a new house so just want somewhere we can have fond memories of till the next one!
Did Barbados last year loved it though we ended up being off work for 6 weeks on our return with salmonella following a dodgy omelette on the last day! Am not very lucky with holidays lol

Budget we paid 3k for the one being refunded, so that would go on new holiday, can't really go up more than that.I notice they are now asking 4500 for same 2 weeks in hotel we were going to!

Also we are tied with departure dates has to be 22/23 april as time off already booked with work. Any help be very much appreciated, not sure which other thread to post on.
