Might be ok occasionally but considering all of the foam, soap and stuff in the bath you're not really 'rinsing' as such and so the hair isn't properly clean and can look dull.

My youngest prefers this jug mentioned earlier http://www.gltc.co.uk/fcp/product/-/bestsellers_bs/Shampoo-Rinse-Jug/10000000078

    I bought mine from mothercare.

It has a soft rubber bit that shapes itself around the forehead and acts a seal, so as long as the child doesn't move then they won't get anything in their eyes.

I used to lie my eldest back in a shallow bath, he didn't mind that. Youngest won't lie back though. neither would wear a shield.

After screaming and not trusting me the first couple of times (he was around his 2nd birthday when I bought it, and was just convinced that hair washing was the most painful thing ever lol!) my youngest now understands that it works, and nothing will go in his eyes if he keeps his head against the jug.

If hair washing gets mentioned at toddler group etc. people say their kids scream even if it's plain water, so although some brands of shampoo might sting I think it's actually getting water in the eyes that upsets children.

  • my daughter used to scream in the bath unless oh washed her hair by lying her back in his hands then she asked for a shower and she stood there in the shower with it all over her head happy as larry:confused:

    kids are weird!

another trick i do is i have a mirror with a little sailor man on top above the bath so i tell my daughter aged 4 and son aged 3 to look at the man and then pour the water on, as they are looking up it doesnt go in the eyes and seems to have cured the dramatics:T

Unfortunately there is no way he will come in the shower with me (which is a cubicle). I will have a go with the shield, then the jug.

As he always manages to get paint, food, snot etc in his hair and due to his hatred of it, I don't wash his hair that often, therefore his hair needs shampoo.

He won't lie backwards anymore although I did it like this when he was smaller.

    Thanks again
