First thing, why are you with orange? thier tech support are a bunch of monkeys off shore.
You say you have been having some internet problems and your speed has gone down? Sounds about right to me then LOL..These problems are they intermittent disconnectinos by any chance?
I need to know if your on a Ipstream,Datastream or LLU broadband platform to advise fully, but any ISP who offers offshore tech support just stay away from them...0 -
Roxie, it may be worth persisting with the technical support lines. I'm with sky broadband, also up to 8mb, but was getting similar speeds to you.
I called the tech support, got put through to india or somewhere and did all the basic things they told me - unplug this, plug it back in, are you using a filter? yes, ok unplug that and plug it back in etc etc. kept doing all that rubbish and was told it must be a problem with my bt line. called bt and was told the line was fine, called sky back told them this and got put through to a different tech support department in ireland i think it was, they checked a couple of things while i was on the phone, did something at their end and all of a sudden my speed jumped up to around 5-6mbs.
I'm not sure what it was he did exactly but they were a lot more knowledgable than the first line basic tech support you speak to so i would advise speaking to them, doing the checks they tell you to and if that doesnt work try getting put through to the more advanced tech support because it sounds like you have the same problem i did0 -
Thanks for all the replies - will let me OH have a read through tomo as this is his thing. Orange told us we were getting 0.5meg when we called them - called BT and searched online and its says should be getting 5 -7meg.MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

Check to see what other LLU are in your area:

Again..it could be anything....but Virgin are pretty good on cable.
If you have a router then disconnect it and plug straight into the modem.....then test the speed. If it's still no good....put a support call in.0 -
It may have been an enforced DLM cap on your line that was removed, speed on ADSL is dependant on a number of things, distance to exchange, equipment on the line, quality of the line and equipment at exchange. Ringing BT to discuss a line issue is not a good route unless there is noise on hte line as BT will not give the proverbial monkeys if you mention ADSL speed and they are not the ADSL supplier.alexalexalex wrote: »

To the original poster have you got your router stats? Specifically attenuation, SNR/ noise margin and download / upload speeds that the router is synching at?0
