I tried it briefly at the beginning of my diet when I was full of determination. I did lose some weight but I was exercising a lot. I did find it really boring after awhile and gave up. Like someone else said it is a very sickly taste and made me a bit loose in the bathroom department (:embarasse too much information). Basically its ok to give you a kick start, but its not sustainable or a good long term plan (for me). When I go out to work early I often buy one so I don't skip breakfast.

I have tried lots of way to lose weight, but basically got bored and lost motivation easily. *You have to find your own way*. For me it is to diet (calorie count to 1500kcal per day) one day and exercise the next, alternatively. If I try to do both my appetite increases and I end up either scoffing too much or getting grumpy :D. On the day I exercise I do "watch" what I eat, but don't calorie count and give myself a treat without the guilt.

They will work if you stick to them and don't cheat however I think they are expensive and would recommend Holland and Barratt protein shakes (I like the vanilla) as a great tasting (and much cheaper) alternative:money:
Thank you for this site Martin

Anything will work if you stick to a low amount of calories and do some exercise. Its getting yourself into the mind set of controlling your intake thats the hard bit. Once you have got that you will lose the weight without the use of expensive diet aids.

This is sensible advice. Diet aids exist to make money for their manufacturers.

At the end of the day, you just need to eat less and/or do more. That way, you lose weight and save money.

Change your eating habits and exercise more, that's what's working for me, although I have been lax recently. Am getting back into it though

I know a few people who lost a lot of weight on Slimfast, but started putting weight on as soon as they came off it. I was with a friend when she was buying some supplies and I was shocked at how expensive it is. She could have just looked at the calorie content of a shake and gone and found herself a really nice lunch for the same money and same calorie value. I guess that is not the point of it though!

you can get the tins in savers for £3.99 12drinks. Its not dear in my opinion plus you dont need to think what shall i have for lunch etc!

its whether its enough for you really, and fills you up also i found you can suffer constipation. There is no doubt you can lose about 2 pounds a week if you stick to it though!

  • I lost quite a lot of weight on it a few years ago, but afterwards started having a lot of stomach pains and being sick sporadically.. eventually it got worse, and I ended up getting admitted to hospital in agony - it turned out I had pancreatitis caused by gallstones... which can be fatal - I spent 2 weeks in hospital, most of it in a lot of pain and very poorly.

It also turns out that developing gallstones is very common after doing slimfast.. never again.

    Hi all,
I must be an exception to the rule then. I used slimfast in 2001 for 6 months. I stuck to it and did 20 mins exercising each evening (nothing too taxing just a bit of yoga and weights). I went from a size 16 to a size 10-12 and am still to this day a size 12. For me it worked well and the weight has stayed off even though i now no longer exercise.
