No- neither do any other ''get thin fast'' diets

They may lose you weight but in it would be very easy to put it all back on again as it does not address the reason anyone became over weight: the eating habits they have.

There is no secret to weight loss: more caloires going in then coming out = weight gain, so therefor fewer calories coming in then going out = weight loss. You need to move around more whilst eating less. Exercise ha its limits though, it does make a worthwhile difference but don't rely on gym machines to tell you how many calories you burn, they over estimate by 200% in some cases! Better to deal with your food.

Slim fast is about swapping your meals with lower calorie shakes. Most people eat more then 200kcals a meal so by swapping for a slim fast shake will lose weight. But once they start eating again, they are likely to go back to eating their same 200plus calorie meals 3 times a day which would mean they gain weight. As their body will have lost some weight quite quickly, it will put on weight quite quickly and then some! A very easy way to put on weight is to starve then binge, your blood sugar levels and hormones go all over the place. Weight gets added on especially around your middle due to the hormone cortisol which comes along when you are stressed and you end up feeling bloated, depressed and so eat even more...

Best way to lose weight? Healthy eating! Moderation and making sure things are nutitionally balanced: eat 5 portions of fruit anf veg a day (3 to be veg, 2 to be fruit) any more then that is a bonus. Drink 1.5 plus L of plain water per day, if you exercise drink 500mls per hour of exercise, more if you need it. Eat enough protein for your body weight, eat complex carbs and try to vary what you eat. Keep within a set calorie guildline and you will lose weight. Websites like fitday.com are helpful- I am sure there are loads of them where you can log what you eat and exercise you do each day. It can help to write things down as you eat them also.
  • Gets you in the habit of having breakfast if you're one of those people that can't face it. Encourages you to drink rather than eat first. Makes you less likely to snack at 11.

The coffee one tastes quite nice.

Can't call it a magic potion, but if it moves you away from 11 o'clock danish pastries and starbuck's lattes, it's not all bad.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

just about all these meal substitute shakes have very high sugar content often 40-50%

reducing your calorie intake too much causes you to go into starvation mode where the body will store as much food as fat as possible and will consume your own muscle mass and organs as food.

the government's own statistics show that 99% of diets fail

if you over weight (with no medical condition which 99.9% do not have) there is something wrong with your lifestyle, you eat to much, you eat a lot of processed food, you do not exercise enough or in most cases a mix of all 3

the only long term to way to loose weight and keep it off is safely is to permanently change your lifestyle, eat healthy whole foods and exercise a little

for the 250 odd calories per shake you could have a lot of real food which would keep you full longer and not be processed crap

200g of lean chicken breast (protein is a proven appetite suppressant)
    a nana and 3 apples
a medium sized tuna salad with no dressing
    a wide selection of soup

in fact home made soup is a fantastic way to loose weight, you can control exactly what's in it and therefore the calories, you will get a large filling meal full of healthy whole foods, some soups are designed to be eaten cold for the summer, and there is a lot of research to show that food that's suspended in water takes 60-90 minutes longer to digest than food eaten with a drink so it keeps you full longer

Yes they work, the problem is what happens afterwards, as soon as you stop the weight comes back on and often a bit more for luck!
As others said, change your eating and exercise habits for life to see a change and don't do it all at once, just change a few things a week -Change too much at once and it's to hard a habit to keep.

I have known a couple of people who have lost shed loads of weight on slim fast.

The trouble was as soon as they reached target and stopped the weight went back on as quickly as it came off.

They are a quick fix solution but if you don't change the eating habits that caused the weight gain in the first place then you are wsting your time and money.
