What's the deal
Tesco is offering a free eye test, worth £10 at 114 of its opticians across England & Wales.
Simply print out the voucher and take it with you to your appointment. The voucher is valid until 1 Feb 09. The voucher also appears in this month's Tesco magazine.
Find your nearest Tesco opticians.
Do remember there is no obligation to then buy glasses or contact lenses from Tesco.
Scottish MoneySavers already get free eye tests!
If you live in Scotland you are entitled to a free eye test already.

Thanks for this! I was only thinking today that I must get my eyes re-tested. Has anyone any experience of Tesco opticians/glasses, please?0

I took my teenage daughter there last year and purchased two very stylish pairs. Service was excellent and choice and price also very good.
Overall I was impressed so I have booked free eye test with them for myself.0 -
Can you use this to get your prescription, then use that to buy cheap glasses or contact lenses online?0

Yes you can. I had a free eye test at Dolland and Aitchison last year but their frames were very expensive. I asked if I could take my prescription and said that I would call in the following day and choose, when I had more time. I eventually bought some at Specsavers as they were doing an offer of 2 for 1.0 -

Yes - I did exactly that three years ago - bought my glasses from

Excellent prices and service - will use them again this time. The Gant frames with thin coated lenses are cracking value compared to Boots.
The only thing is the standard eyetest results don't include your "interpupil distance", and when I asked for it the girl at Tesco said it would cost another £20 just for that! I think it let's the cat out of the bag that you are getting your glasses online.
I ended up measuring my own with a rule and a mirror (62mm) and I must have got it right as my glasses have been fine.
Good luck!0 -
I was advised that they are OK for retests etc but be careful if it is a first testDoing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
I always point it out when it's in the tips email, but if you use a computer VDU screen at work for 4 hours a day or more (not necessarily a computer, consider other display devices too!) then your employer must meet the cost of your eye test.
SO, what this means is that if (like most spectacle wearers) you have a regular optician you know and trust then chances are you'd prefer not to go to Tesco for an eye test and instead see your exisiting optician.
In which case I'm just pointing out that you're at liberty to get your normal eye test done and submit the expense to your employer.
Of course it makes sense to ask your employer first as I found a previous very large employer had a voucher scheme setup with Dolland & Aitchinson, but my current employer just has me submit it as expenses.
Remember though, it's your legal right so don't be fobbed off!0 -
Employers must offer eye tests to users who use display screen equipment (DSE) for more than one hour continually (or near-continually) each working day...0
